The Dr Phil Show Contacted Me!

Glad you were able to make a decision you feel good about so you can look for next steps.

I have heathcare, and I am a 100% service connection veteran. So I have options. It's just finding the right resource, person that works.

It sounds like it's fair to say the show inspired you, but that doesn't mean go on Dr. Phil for you, but take that inspiration and start looking for the right help for you. I did so many years without therapy and didn't even recognize why I'd need it...or didn't want to change. So recognizing that I needed help, wanted it, and was able to research for a good therapist was in itself a really empowering turning point for me. I'm glad to hear you have options.

First off, I am already prepared that I am going to hear strong opinions on either side. Som...
Dr Phil was never an MD. He has never been licensed to prescribe medicines. Most of his "clinical" experience has been while doing his tv show.
Oprah needed psych social support during her lawsuit in Texas, sought out a therapist. She sized him up and supported ( paid for and produced) a pilot tv show that succeeded. You could do better finding a therapist nearby that was a good fit. Dr Phil would likely pay for this in return for exposing yourself to a million tv viewers.....
I would only go on that show to utilize his generous offerings of inpatient therapy by other providers.
My humble thoughts and opinion.......

Dr. Phil is actually brilliant. I knew him before he got famous. He sort of sold out but that doesn't mean he doesn't tell people.

I would 100% go on that show to get the care I can't afford Because I need serious, deep care. Like hospital care and then after care. Probably a 90 day program like addicts do - I need to be rehabilitated.

But if your gut says no and you have options then I am glad writing here helped you decide! XOXO

Im going to repond without reading any replies as Dr Phil's staff called me 3 times wanting me on the show, 3 different times, except I didnt want to be on tv, i have enough anxiety around people as it is, i didnt want to hear my entire family call me liars and i certianly shouldnt be asked to take a lie detector; and he wanted to call my mom and stepdad, my abusers. Absolutly not and if they are even in the State of Cali I wont be; also i had a therapist of a year; a great one but i didnt know how to tell him why i was really there or even gather the courage so i wanted 5 mins, just 5, to see if he; whom dealt with a lot of stories like mine (Clelevland House, Children Of God now called the family, peligousmous cults etc) cults, so I thought that, as someone with "special" needs, not someone that just had been a victim of incest, not to downplay that at all, BUT someone thats brainwashed and has been through forced killing animals, etc has more additional needs. He wouldnt give me a sec until i agreed to go on tv and even then i wouldnt talk to him until then on the stage. I get he doesnt practice amymore, neither does the tv Dr that DID help me, but he could have, with my past, at least emailed me himself, i asked his staff member to ask him and if could respond through them, no no no is all i heard. Eff that! Dr Drew Pinsky, whom is an MD, has had fame way longer than Dr Phil, he started on a radio show called love line when i was in middle school, im now almost 35, now has his HLN show, Celebrity Rehab, 16 and pegnant, Teen Mom, and Teen Mom2, he is the sweetest internal medicince Dr, he is also an addiction medicine specialist and he read microexpressions and should be a psycologist but isnt. He also was whom spoke about depression after Robin Williams committed siocode. He had an "ask Dr Drew chat", we were in a chat, he was on video, it was only a 15 min chat, he answered about 8 questions, he spent the longest on mine. He gave me the words, the courage, and the reason that i had to let someone close. Advised me how to tell my therapist and I took his advise, slowly over 2 yrs. That next session I told my therapist. He has fame, but he takes 15 mins of his VERY busy schedule of several shows to do a chat. Ive asked Dr Phil to do that to help people not wanting on tv but his staff says no over and over. He wants ratings, he doesnt want to help you unless it helps him. Im sure he's a nice man (most of the time) but his ego is bigger than then size of Texas. If you go, be careful. Dont read the mesaage boards AT ALL after your show airs as people arent nice on there (ive also been on there and its nothing like this; people just want to throw opinions, not help and it hurts more than helps; especially if they have a show to go off of. Just be careful as a therapist can be found without going on tv and be THAT vulerable. He has said many times that he's the best at what he does; i beg to differ, i find my own therapist way better but thats just me. I dont hate Dr Phil, i still watch him, dont like his apparent ego but watch him nonetheless. If you say yes, BE VERY CAREFUL!

Yeah I shouldn't have said 100%. The reason I have such severe PTSD would be a big feature for him and he'd want to sensationalize it all. I don't think my family would ever be willing to talk to him and they certainly wouldn't go along with sensationalizing anything about the whole situation. AND that would be a price too high for the therapy. It would be another trauma! There are some people I have seen on there it was worth it and they got help they needed but it's certainly not for everyone.

Do it. Who the flip cares what anyone thinks? Our lives are already miserable...so if you feel this could motivate you for change DO IT. I'd give anything to get real help. I want my life to change. I want to be happy....and i would be, pardon my language, got dammit!! If others stupid opinions stood in my way. If I cared about what anyone thinks but myself I probably wouldn't be here today. I don't care anymore...I been hurt so badly I exist.
Good luck.
If you go please let me know.
I support you and am sorry for any challenges your life has known.

I don't think he did it to be offensive, but I remember the specific thing that made me lose all re...
Omg that is OUTRAGEOUS HEROS TO MONSTERS? had I been on that show I would have IMMEDIATELY called my attorney. It's hard enough to find courage to share what you have endured but I couldn't imagine sitting down to watch "my" show to see a title so offensive. UNACCEPTABLE AND POTENTIALLY REVICTIMIZING VICTIMS!!

I agree. How does it help a person to be called a monster? That is just for ratings. Sad. I guess it's a two-edged sword. For some a really big price to pay to get help. For others it's probably not so bad and worth it.

I haven't seen but one show in many years. This one was on people who have obese kids and he was kind. He didn't call anyone names or say they are awful people or any of that.

He just showed them what they were doing wrong and how to fix it and showed them that it's easier and different than they think.

He hooked them up with nutritionists and some sort of coach I guess to come in andd show them how to make meals that taste good, don't leave them feeling hungry, but are healthy.
