I remember the first answering machine at home - oh boy - that was exciting :D

Playing hide and seek in the cornfields, building a "tent", and really make the farmer angry when ruining sections of the field LOL.

Nowadays, what do kids do if you send them outside and tell them "play something"?

Nowadays, what do kids do if you send them outside and tell them "play something"?

I can answer that! We look at our parents speechless, as if they are aliens or as if their mind has been emptied of all things rational, and then we say quite clearly and calmly "But there's nothing to do outside." That usually leaves them feeling speechless in return as we go back to watching television or playing on the computer.

Nowadays, what do kids do if you send them outside and tell them "play something"?

This is a two part question for me. My daughter loves to play outside...bicycle, scooter, pogo stick, sidewalk chalk, etc. When we are visiting friends, all the kids will play outside together on swings and slides, they'll play tag and hide-and-seek, they'll create endless imaginative games that they play together.

The problem is, it is a different world than the one I grew up in. I'm terrified to let her play outside by herself. So unless I have the time to sit outside with her while she is playing (which, unfortunately, I often do not), she doesn't get to play outside the same way I did when I was a kid.

My grandchildren would play out side in the wind, snow, rain, hail, anything if they could.

They are really miserable if cooped up inside for too long.

My granddaughter even goes to homework club after school every Monday, because she is 1 of a few who are busy all weekend instead of being stuck in front of a TV or playing video games. The school set this up to encourage other kids to "Get up and do more".

Kids have trampolines now, thats something that makes me want to be a kid again (except the neighbors can see me over the fence if I jump too High:D)

But when I was young, schools let us play on the school playground outside school hours - where else is better for roller skating :)

Schools used to put climbing bars over the concrete then too :eek: none of this health and safety stuff, a cracked head just made us more intelligent :p

Cath! I love the second picture! That's exactly what my little brother and I would probably do! And as for the third picture- I remember having a bike like that when I was 2-4 years old and first learning to ride a bicycle. That thing was awesome- I only rode it on the sidewalk though. Oh good memories before trauma! :inlove:

Chopper bikes, they were the coolest bikes ever. I always wanted one.
