The Ones Left Behind

I was afraid I said something that would...

I don't think you said anything wrong. In fact I think what you said is very true. You're addressing a side of the conversation that is very important. I realize that not everyone has kids or other family members they're close to. And I can see where it then asks the question who is the person for me? Who are the people that would miss me?

And you're right. It has to be a different thing then. Maybe friends. Maybe self. A hard concept to not hurt myself for myself. And I honestly think that when we save ourselves for ourselves it's a very real and genuine place and reason to start. If I get healthy for you for example and then our friendship ends where does my "reason" go? If I get healthy for me and it benefits our friendship and our friendship ends I'm still ok with me.

Maybe part of it can be in self worth. Or maybe in self esteem. Maybe it's being self aware. If we can find in ourselves that we are reason enough valuable enough to find the courage or whatever is needed to ask for help to not hurt yourself.

Yes @BlackbirdSinging though more difficult than it sounds theoretically, I'm sure that's so. I heard today we can have hope stolen by other's cynacism, faith stolen by other's doubt, trust stolen by other's duplicity. I would add value stolen by other's abuse. Unfortunately, when it's started early, or all one has known, I think it's near-to-impossible to overcome, or at the very least very very difficult to overcome without those lack of resources, on top of it. . Especially when the abuse continues. Something people who have resources can't conseptualize.

Like I was thinking, someone asked on another thread, how do we show respect? Well, to me, showing respect flows when one actually respects someone else. Same goes with value, care etc. So they say it's possible to have value, & also possible to not be valued (by others). And unfortuntely, for maybe some people like your husband, sometimes not to be able to grasp or realize the love you gave when he did actually have it, vs those who do not.

I just think what such a decision is not, is one intended on being selfish or harming others. More desperate pain relief, which most people at some level can for some second of their life, understand.

Thanks.
