Therapist Said I Was Too Stressed For Therapy

Hi there, yes I agree with adrenal burn out etc and how one can wreck ones body one such an environment, but if the client has no other option, mortgage, children etc, often still help can be given, as I said I am living in horrendous conditions and I have changed therefore my ability to cope with the same situation has. ie Nothing changes until you do, everything changes when you change.

My circumstances where causing me to have a break down, still living in them , but as less or milder PTSD scores, I don,t get activated as much. In addition I still state she was abrupt and that wasn,t professional to throw a client out, she could have referred him into other services etc. Trust me when I say not many could have got stable under my circumstances, given I have complex PTSD and had to get my neighbour arrested for harassment, stalking me, threats of violence, in addiction to poverty, no support network because of being harmless at one stage and major trust issues, because of the abuse. And hundreds of police call out, all top housing people emailing me abusively daily. I reckon that,s stressful as a high powered job, they can leave, I can,t as it was re-framed I was imagining it, as mental health patient, THAT'S stress.

I worked in design where stayed up until 2 am nightly to meet designed deadlines and trust me that was FAR less stressful than having someone like my neighbour threatening violence that would cripple me, only 2 metres away- that's stress, being trapped. However I do agree with you that the high powered caffine work until you drop is as bad, have experienced both, give me the job option any day.

Repairing ones adrenal's can be done through natural diet, I'm researching that, as got ME through stress of my neighbour triggering off my fight or flight protection 24/7, lost 66 lbs, chest pains, but hey still went to therapy and due to the change in me, next time he threatened me I had changed, he could sense it, I'm a lot stronger now, he backed down..................therapy helped me through that harrowing time without that I'd be dead,

Surprised, you seem angry and it was not my intention to upset you. Nor was anything I said a judgement on your strength or character.

Yes, other help can be given and received, and I hope you find that. But there are few trauma therapists and they need to be spending their expertise on those ready for trauma therapy, not doing other less effective therapies on those who are unlikely to be successful.

I used to have a life much like what you are describing. Yes, you deserve lots of credit for being able to tolerate all the stress you have.

Once I learned some new skills, I stopped having so much drama in my life because I don't put myself into situations nearly as much. The ones that happen, I manage better, and can handle them before they get so bad they interrupt my life for long. though, it still happens.

I wish you much luck and healing on your journey. My words are only my opinion, and if they aren't helpful, ignore them. They're only based on my experiences, so they may not apply.

Oy, just wrote a similar post before I found this thread. Though I see Anthony's point, it's very "logical" - but we are dealing with people's feelings, secrets and developing trust levels, here.

If the therapist was unable to help her, she should've referred her to someone who could teach her coping skills to deal with her stress and then come back - and telling someone, during this economy, to just "find another job" is not that simple. (It seems only people in "safe" fields during a poor economy, such as healthcare, say things like that).

I'm sorry, but therapists are not God and you have no guarantee they don't have their own issues or transferences that are interfering with your therapy themselves - don't assume they are saner than you are just because they have credentials behind their name.

In fact, very often, I think when they react so strongly, they possibly have issues along the same lines they either aren't self-aware enough to take a look at, or chose something that worked for them that they firmly believe in and don't understand why it isn't working for you too.

VT86, I hope everything worked out for you, I'd love to hear an update. The "prediction" over your life, as if she had a crystal ball, was especially inappropriate. You let it rent space in your head and it became self-fulfilling prophecy. Evict it and throw that noise where it belongs, in the trash.

Take care,
