I don't really remember ever having a good therapist. I get the old "Your how old and you haven't gotten over the abuse yet?" I had 10 different therapists alone in the last 15 years . I had to see one after I got sexually assaulted by my Landlord 2 years ago (which my Landlord Got off with a warning but they police have been trying to catch him for 6 years prior to him assaulting me). I was told if I had let him sexually abuse me that I could have put him behind bars.

The therapist they had me go to was really offish, kept asking about how I pleasure my fiance and if I enjoy sex . I told him that was none of his business so after that he told me that I was not sexually assaulted & that I was a waste of his time. I reported him a day later to find out that therapist was arrested for sexually assaulting his previous female clients.

The one I had recently which was last January same old " Your how old and you haven't gotten over the abuse yet?" she asked me how my sexual relationship was going & I said it was going fine. After that she diagnosed me with PTSD (which I already knew I had) and Borderline personality disorder and told me I was not help able.

Should I still try to find therapy and if so where should I look? I don't wanna go to a person that's going to make me feel worse about being there.

Hi Leiaza,

I am sorry that you have had such rotten experience with therapists. However if you feel that you are still affected by the abuse then I think you are quite right to be considering therapy again.

I don't know how old you are, but that really is not relevant. I think many of us on here would love to think we are 'over it' at our age, but there always seems to be something just round the corner waiting to trip us up. Good therapy allows us to be prepared and practice the tools that help.

I am not sure where you are. In the UK it is possible to access therapy via the NHS. However if that is not an option, then some people are able to access help through specific charities that support victims of rape or abuse.Look for therapists who are experienced, qualified in the specific therapy you want and used to dealing with trauma/abuse.

In my opinion the diagnoses of PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder are less important than the level of distress being suffered. The therapist should treat the symptoms to reduce distress, not give you a label and then effectively tell you that you are incurable. It sounds to me like a get-out clause from a therapist not confident in their own ability.

Do you have an aim? By that I mean what do you actually want to achieve in therapy? What do you want to be able to do, or stop doing? What thoughts or behaviours do you want help to change?
