Thinking About A Ptsd Tattoo

I have three tattoos, each for someone I lost/died that contributed to my PTSD. One was my abuser, the other two my supporters (even though I didn't know to call them that at the time). I've been considering having the abuser tattoo reworked, because as it is it's a painful reminder every time I see it. I was thinking of having it changed to a phoenix rising, to symbolize that I will reclaim my life and my mind, despite the damage he inflicted. Corny, I know.

Annalost,
I like the idea of having the tattoo of your abuser redone. I too would have a huge problem seeing his face or a reminder of him on me each day. I think The Phoenix idea is a good one, the rising above and reclaiming ourselves is exactly what we are doing! As long as your tattoo has great meaning to you that's all that matters as it's your body that it's going on. As Dr. Seus said, "Be who you are and say what you feel. Because those that mind don't matter, And those that matter don't mind. " ;)

I have several tattoos. One is a bracelet drawn with my children's birth flowers-rose and sweet pea. My other three are auspicious symbols of Buddhism that represent the hope of brilliance and the absence of fear. I'm going to have them expanded. My nephew is a tattoo artist and I get them for free!! I find it very relaxing, but I have a history of cutting, so these injuries relax my mind. Don't be afraid of the pain, and think long and hard about what you want drawn on you. They're forever.
