Time Frame For Sheppard Pratt Admission

hi, I'm new here and have read, I think every Sheppard Pratt thread I could find. I've been accepted into the program but am on a wait list and am wondering if anyone who has had experience going there is familiar with how long this could take? I feel like I've already waited forever, and am not sure how much longer I can wait without being hospitalized somewhere closer to home. Which my therapist does not want to happen because it may slow the process down even more.

I'm just super anxious and worried that I will have to wait even another week and weekend before I can go.

I have been there one myself and it was the best thing I have ever done, a life changer for me.

It took me 3 weeks, but the first week was getting the referral done, and it took two weeks for them playing phone tag with my therapist for a question I answered for them after calling them myself. There were ready for me the following day.

They always have spare beds, but space availability is determined by staffing available considering the time of unit it is, they can have two high a patient to staff ratio, and unlike other units were there are just a couple staff except for group times, this unit has a full team.

So the answer to your question is there is no set time. It's a very dynamic process, being ready for you can be affected by a lot of things, each patient has unique needs, and they have to factor that in. They balance things out.

My recommendation is this, your already accepted, that's the big hurdle.
Sit tight until they are ready for you.
It will be worth the wait.

This week will be three weeks since my therapist sent in the referral. There was a lot of back and forth because of insurance and Medicare info, it just feels soooo long! I'll have to fly in as well, so getting there will be another task on my own. I just don't think it will happen this week, and I'm just disappointed and discouraged to wait even another week.

Ive been hospitalized many times, but am totally unfamiliar with this type of process and how slow it has been. It's hard not to be consumed by it in my thinking because I'm anxious about the length of stay, flying, waiting much longer, and just saying forget about it maybe I shouldn't go.

If it makes you feel any better, a lot of specialized trauma programs have several months -even up to a couple years- long waiting lists. Some due to bedspace, but mostly due to trying to keep groups of similar patients together. 1 DID person vs 20 not, or 20 DID people vs not? 1 man & 50 women, 50 men & 1 woman? Et cetera are things that most trauma units try to avoid. Shepard Pratt's tendency to specialize & much larger facility helps keep them super speedy (usually in under 6 weeks, which is blazing fast) as far as admittance goes.

It will be worth the wait, and I know how you feel, I felt the same way, it was not soon enough and every minute I was suicidal just waiting. Don;t give up waiting, and keep after them, the more they see your in immediate need the more likely they will make room somehow.
