I was talking with a friend who's a nurse and was told that 1 out of 5 deaths (1,300 daily) are due to cigarette smoking and that smokers (I smoked for over 40 years and now I don't) die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.
Still now I can't wrap my mind around the crazy-making fact that not only did I used to smoke for 40 plus years, but that also I was putting a loaded gun (figuratively) to my mouth and I was also playing Russian-roulette with my very life every time I did so.
And that tobacco is not only a known cause of cancer, tobacco use is also the leading avoidable cause of death here in the US. I hope all that want to quit smoking are able to do so and I am rooting for all!
