Other Triggered By Trump

@SittingDuck, eeks, I'm so sorry you have to keep up with the news for your job. Right now Trump is such an abusive, toxic presence in our lives. Hubby keeps using the term r* culture, because that's really also part of what's going on, in addition to the bigotry.

This thread will be here for us all over the next four weeks and beyond. He is not one who is going to go quietly into that good night.

I find it fascinating that so many people have talked about this with their therapists. I have talked to both of mine (I see one for PTSD and one for SUD) about this a couple times each, and they have both said that they and their other patients with trauma history have been triggered as well.

I have no idea how one would go about doing this, but it would be interesting to find out how many people with a history of abuse are triggered by Trump. I'd be willing to bet there are a lot.

I know there's not much you can do to get through to Trump supporters, but maybe this would cause a few people to rethink their vote.

@Iamsensative, sometimes we just have to practice avoidance. I was horrified by him in the last debate, and so were plenty of other people who don't even have PTSD. His behavior was so bad I couldn't even really follow what was being said. My T and my hubby both say they think he did that on purpose to distract people from following what was being said. I really think he's evil. And I don't say that lightly about anyone.

My hubby told me about a woman who was on "The Apprentice" who wrote about her experience with abusive Trump and she got like 27 million hits in one day.

He's a human hurricane.

He's also the poster child for narcissistic personality disorder. I wish someone in the media would ask him about that! I can only imagine the offensive and inappropriate things he would say in response, but it might be worth it to watch him implode. :D

@hodge The problem is that it's a small town, so the chances of running into dumped-friends is high. Better to not build bridges than have to burn them later and suffer the consequences. I'll take my time.

I think my issue is not so much about him possibly winning, it's about the constant toxicity, and having to see and hear people, some of them relatives, defending him. It reminds me why I'm not close to my relatives, and it makes me feel like I can't trust people. It just makes me aware of how many people choose hate instead of healing. It's just constant, constant, constant toxic nasty nastiness, and people don't believe it's toxic. It's like trying to explain to people about my dad all over again.

Definitely, @SittingDuck. Did you happen to see the episode of Lawrence O'Donnell a couple months ago where he had all the DSM traits for NPD written on a blackboard behind him? It was brilliant.

I saw this thread as Samanatha Bee made a mention of PTSD on her show. It's just a brief line , but I thought it was very validating for someone to bluntly say that the things he was recorded saying on that bus has an effect on people.

I'm also watching The Daily Show right now. I also find Tervor Noah really comforting.

I understand, @Thizette. I live in a really small town, too, 1700 people. We're in a red part of the state, but amazingly our town went for Obama in the last two presidential elections. There are maybe 5 black people in our town and maybe 15 Hispanic people. Otherwise, basically Scandinavian- and German-Americans. White, white, white! Blah. I grew up with more diversity of people in my life and I miss that!

Oh, darn, I'm missing Trevor right now! I took a nap earlier this evening and it's totally discombobulated me. Thankfully, we can watch his shows on Comedy Central online.

Darn, we missed Samantha Bee again tonight!! I'm so glad she did that. Thanks for the alert, @Nessa7 We'll have to watch online.

I love Trevor. He is not only cute with a great accent, but sooooo smart and compassionate. I'm sure by this time he has his guest on and won't really do any more commentary. Bummer. But his show is online for anyone who's missed it.
