Just at cat 2 and building suposed to hit south of cairns need to get some strong wind shere to take the piss and vinigar out of yasi a good north easter should do it. I'm betting on yasi to get heavy and slow up about a 2 or less. Hope i'm right.Link Removed at yasi.

Nah mate, its a high 3 already and building. Its eye is 100km across and the whole width is closer to 500km. We are expecting wind up to 120 km an hour tomorrow. If it takes a sudden southerly turn like the one the other day, we could be in for much worse. Oh well, my car will be in my garage and I will turn it on so the airbags work.

Jimmy

Yeah Tex, thats ok for us having gusts like that, but the poor people up near Cairns are going to be hit again. They had a Cat 5 during Christmas 05, and now another possible Cat 5. That is wind gusts of near 280 km near the eye.
I will pray for them.
But then again, nothing is concrete when it comes to weather. Cyclone Tracey formed went back out to sea, then came back and flattened Darwin in the 70's. This one may head further south then the wind and rain will get worse.
I have a torch, a gas bbq, flour, powdered milk, heaps of coffee, and 3 tanks full of rain water, we are fine.

I will pray for em to I grew up around hurricanes and twisters and a lot of peolpe don't know what even loosing part of you tin is like and haven family picture alblums get wet ruind. Its the small stuff that can't be replaced. You can always build a new house but you can never replace the home.

Yeah I know mate. There were people here in the last cyclone wishing we had got hit as they wanted to see what strong wind was like. Maybe they should see what devastation and carnage looks like and then they will change their minds

It was a little light humour. No one knows what this cyclone is going to be like. It is the largest in Australian history now it says on the bulletin. We should be ok here though.
Anyway, if all else fails and its getting hairy, I will get in the car with my boys and turn the engine on. At least then if the roof flies off and something hits the car, the airbags will go off. I have like six of them.
The cyclone is going to hit more in Innisfail though, poor buggars, another one

Hope all the car yards on charters towers road have gotten them out... if they expect flash flooding. Is that still the #1 road up their to go under?

Cat 5 now... I would be holding on mate, and praying that sucker fizzles before hitting the coast. Certainly put the above statements to the test, and how much engineering improved since cyclone Tracy! :)

Cat 5 would certainly clear out any existing old houses that aren't built the best. Some of the old one's up their are awesome for storms... better built... some not so good.

Good time to be in the window business up north though... lets face it, their the buggers who make all the $$$ from storms... windows are the weakest point in nearly every structure.

Got spare jocks buddy Link Removed You could need them Link Removed

They are talking about a 5 m storm surge. Bushland Beach and all the other coastal areas are being evacuated.
