OK, setting Monday up as another quit date on smokes. This has to be almost try 10 over lord knows how long. Hubby's reaction... "OK, sure" Blow up from me him being a butt (had to hear his tone) but after that he said he will try to help. He has no faith but who could blame him as I fail all the time. My only point was I will never make it if I stop trying. So wish me luck. I asked him to step it up a notch for me and refuse to go buy if I break. Since I do not shop or work out of the home hope it will help. Will be joining a support group this time too.

Hi Veild
Good luck. I hope he sticks to not buying them for you. I think any type of support you can get would be useful.

Take care
Tammy

Best of luck and strength Veiled. I wish you well in trying to quit and I hope hubby can stand by you and hold up his end of the deal by refusing to go to the shops. I used to smoke (yuck) and when I did try and give up the best thing was not having any smokes around (my friends respected what I was trying to do and did not smoke in front of me) and when I had the cravings I never went near any shops even if I needed bread and milk

Good luck.

Goodluck veiled.... the support group sounds like a good option. Are you using an aid, such as nicotine patches or gum for a couple of weeks? I say a couple of weeks as studies have proven outright that nicotine itself is not the addictive issue of giving up smoking, it is the hand to mouth habit that is addictive. Yes, nicotine is addictive by itself, but it is factually proven to have removed itself completely from your system within 7 days. That means, using patches past that point only continues to put another addictive additive within you. If you last the first seven days, then the nicotine is clear of you.... then its just the habit you have formed and know so well, hand to mouth. It is a state of mind, being you get stressed brain says light cigarette, hand to mouth, now feel better. Don't substitute it with food though, you just go another dangerous alley.

I really hope you fight through it this time veiled.... use that support group if you have it I say. Again.... good luck.

Thanks guys. This really means a lot considering y'all have been through at least one of my attempts here publicly. I can alway make a week. That seems to be it. It is not and has not seemed to be a major crave thing, I just turn into a "megatron bitch". My anger gets very explosive and my fuse so very short and people are buying smokes for me and ask me to please smoke (these are non smokers). Or the "I am not encouraging" but maybe a smoke or two daily would be better. Hubs buys a carton and hides them in his tool box "just in case". Asked him not to as I feel set up to fail.

Can't say I will avoid food LOL... I know losing is way easier than quitting smoking and think I have 20 lbs of previous attempts I still carry! But being a lollipop and popcorn person I could do worse things. (chocolate will happen once a month smoke or not!) Just some extra jiggle on the big and beautiful build is not dangerous as cancer. I can just jiggle my extra goodness and it will leave hee hee... Smoking and cancer another story. Can't jiggle it away.

So back to I do not seem to have hard core cravings, just I get so vicious mood wise I make everyone duck and cover when I say I am going to try.

Hubby downloaded the Chinese (Mandarin) from MIT for me recently so I will be occupying myself that way and is loading sheet music and guitar lessons for me to relearn that too and teach our 4 yo. Well, it will be different as I used to play bass. Anyways, hope strumming some chords and learning to write a new language will keep hands busy with the mind. Just hope I do not get too pissed in the process. I just know I have extras to do now.

I did tell hubby it is really not his responsibility to keep me in check buying wise but am asking as a favor. I figure we can work as a team and use agoraphobia in my favor for once. Just told him to be sensitive when I do ask and he says no.

Another thing in my corner I cannot recall a friend in over 10 years that smokes. No one I know (well twin I almost never see) smokes. I will never be exposed to others smoking as on that I have always been the odd man out. I am really amazed so many smoke as I seem to only know of 2 people that do being my sis and bec.

What is strange is I spent so long weaning off xanax and other drugs docs fed me... but even in throws of hardcore withdrawals nothing has yet held a candle to how addicted my body is to this. I mean I got off everything with a huge supply there and docs wanting me on it. I have not taken a dose of xanax in any form for a few months but I am not against it either. I think that way but still I do not take it. I know I will when Summer rolls around as usual, but know I will quit as usual once over the hump.

I think the easy part will be the no drinking as I cannot have a drink and not a smoke. So the reason for Monday is the Super Bowl is tomorrow! It is all about eating and drinking LOL. No drinking is not an issue but no beer on super bowl Sunday is just sacrilegious so I am delaying a day.

Want to add for those who just like to learn. MIT offers free online courses. You do not get credit but you can have an education. We all can use a free education! I just learned about it and will certainly be using it! Hope it will keep me busy during the rough parts.

Oh BTW, I do not use replacements or aids as from past experience it makes it much worse to quit... I have yet to see how this helps. Guess I could view those like zoloft LMAO.

veiled, I hope you do it! I think that's great that you keep trying. Good Luck.

I would need a frontal lobotomy to quit! LOL

Good luck Veiled! My hat goes off to you... as I smoke, and have no intentions on trying to give up since I just don't want to! But I know I should and if I tried it would be so hard!!

AS you said... if you don't keep trying, you definitely won't get there! So Go You!

Veiled,

If you can remember back to the last time you tried to quit, I mentioned that the other people that lived in the apartment building stayed clear of me for a couple of months....LOL!!! Yes the major BITCH thing will likely be around for awhile. Try.....(Try being the operative word here) to remember that you will be bitchy, it isn't their issue, it's yours!!!!!! That I think might help you a little to curb the impulse to want to chew heads and butts off everyone around you.

It will be tough. No doubt about it. Quitting smoking is more addictive than trying to quit heroine. Heroine leaves the body in 3-5 days, smoking is longer, and the addiction is more of a mental thing.

Smoking actually causes you to be anxious. I don't know how many times I used to say, Oh god I need a cigarette to calm down, when I smoked. Well it is actually the feeling of withdrawal that you feel when you haven't had a cig in a couple of hours.

I wish you all the best.....Remember..........If you fail, it's no big deal, you just keep on trying and one day you will beat this.

Good luck hon.......

Good luck, veiled! Been where you are before and I know how tough it is. I hope the support group works for you.

You can do it!

Lisa

oooh yeah bitch happened to me when I couldn't smoke. I went to Spain a few years back, when my mother still didn't know I smoked. It was just my mum, aunt and uncle and me so I couldnt' get away from them easily. I managed 2 cig breaks a day. Ooff, I wasn't happy. I remember screaming at my mum that there was no hair conditioner and that my hair would be shit all holiday and it was all her fault for forgetting ... *shame*....

So... remember to stock up on the conditioner...

As if you need any further help or info on how to quit smoking, I still simply have to put my 2 cents worth in.

I quit--cold turkey--in 3 days and never craved again. People used to tell me they did the cold turkey and in my mind that was impossible--could not be done. Well, it can. With your permission I shall share

Went out and rented ol,d movies, got ice cream and spent the weekend in bed. Figured it was the best place since I NEVER smoked in bed. 3 days and it was over. Noticed a slight urge for about a week but that was with my coffee and paper in the morning.

I was lucky enough to have a neighbor who smoked and we shared a common hallway in the apt. complex. Every time I opened my door I smelled the AWFUL stink of her cigs and it made me quizzy. To this day cig smoke make me nausious. It has been 4 years.

But the biggest tip I can give you is this. If this try does not work,"Next time DO NOT tell anyone, just do it." Takes the pressure off to succeed. Believe me my last try to quit was not my first. In fact, I said nothing to anyone for about a week after my last cig. I realize you live with your family and I lived alone. You would be surprised how long it will take them to notice if you just say nothing.

I wish you all the luck in the world. After everything you have been through I know you can do this. Anthony is right about the body and nicotine. I did however sweat nicotine for another month Good luck and my prayers are with you for success!
