New Here
My boyfriend has got back from Afghanistan he is in the hospital for some injuries and suffering from PTSD. He is back east so I am not able to see him but I was told they have him in a physic ward until they can get some things ironed out . How can I help him? How long do they keep you in? I understand what PTSD can do but I am still trying to understand.

Welcome to the forum Lyn. You did the right thing coming here, not staying alone with this trying experience. There are other combat spouses here and I'm certain that they will help you along. You can go to the supporter's section of this forum to get more answers / clarifications. This will better prepare you to his homecoming. What is very important for you to know is that you have to take care of yourself, find time for yourself as you need your mental stability.

In the meantime, he is in a safe place. There is a special section for the war / combat vets on the forum. If he is interested, you can ask the moderators or me to give you the link.

Welcome Lyn. I too agree with Froggie. You will find lots of interesting articles here as well support for yourself as you prepare to support your boyfriend.

Lyn -

I'm hoping someone "in the know" posts a reply to this. Someone close to me also came back from the Big A and I've wondered where in the world he is. His family hasn't contacted me so I have no clue and have wondered if he didn't wind up in a psych ward himself. I'd never know - and gf's NEVER get told this stuff, only immediate family or spouses :(

I'm married to an X RAF guy who fortunately didn't see action but I do understand how the forces treat 'dependents.' X Military in the UK get help for physical injuries but the psychological effects are overlooked if you live in an area without the relevant support network. I also believe from our own experience that X Military personnel are not correctly integrated back into 'civvy street' and therefore are still in 'military mode' when they leave.

Hope you get news of your friend soon Lyn.
