Please help me understand this state

Hello everyone. Im glad to join this group. I have CPTSD and I cant understand the state I'm experiencing. I would like some support as I feel very isolated. Im currently in healing process and I have weird states i cant explain.

My heart hurts as if someone is squeezing it and doesn’t let go. I feel dizzy, disoriented, feels like dissociation but also shortness of breath and it lasts for hours. My legs feel heavy, i cant talk or walk or anything . it sometimes last for most of the day until i go to bed.

I used to have panic attacks but this feels different. I don’t understand what triggers it and i dont understand what to do with it apart from just be with it and it will go away. Its so exhausting, i feel like i have -1000 energy. Im sure you guys experienced similar states and what helps?

The only thing that makes me feel a bit better is shoving my head almost inside of the AC lol Cold calms me down a bit.

Stress does all kinds of weird things to the body. The stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol can wear the body down to mud. Good you found out about the cold! A common grounding exercise is ice on neck. Maybe buy a bunch of cold packs for the freezer—different sizes and types—then reach for them when you have those uncomfortable feelings?

My understanding is that it’s sort of like “trauma release” where you feel safe enough now for your body to sort of “shake it out of your system.” I had something like that—about a year or so of trembling from sunrise to sundown—exhausting.

Sounds like your still adjusting to the weight. Rose White is right Ice works great. Shocks the system helps you slow down. Head under arms, legs and feet. Where there is a vain exposed the ice will slow your heart rate. Your balancing more than your used to. Take it slow and process what happened before you continue with your routine. I've blacked out and woken up with EMS asking questions. Avoid the bill cool your.body temperature down. A microfiber cloth and a little cold water can help. If you pat yourself with that works good. Don't overwork yourself. What's in your head is overpowering what's outside slow down and cool off.

hello vera. welcome to the forum. i hope you find stabilizing companionship here.

i like @Rose White's theory on "trauma release." this is the first i've heard the theory, but it would fit my own experience quite neatly. my doctor's called it, "migraines," but trauma release fits quite well. as my psychotherapy progressed, the migraines went away. thank god. those were unmitigated hell.

i would add breathing exercises to the list which has already been mentioned, most especially singing and/or chanting. sonic vibrations rattling inside my skull helped tremendously. i tend to hold my breath under stress. regulating my breath was essential.

@Rose White @HomelessJoe @arfie hello everyone. Thank you so much for your responses and welcoming me to the group. I will try what you guys suggested and see how my body and mind responds. I hope my states will become better. I just started EMDR and CBT therapy. If some of you can share a specific therapy that helped you - I would love to hear about it. I have tried so many therapies and even tried Ketamine therapy and looks like emdr and cbt is what slowly helps ..

<grin> Aaaaaaand taking my mod hat off, again! 🧢

I used to have panic attacks but this feels different.
Reads like an anxiety attack (sudden) or straight up anxiety (which can be debilitating)… both are technically “below” the threshold for panic attacks… but as you’ve experienced? That does NOT mean lesser! Often? The exact opposite. Especially if you’ve gotten good at snapping out of panic attacks, and recovering quickly from them, getting crushed by anxiety for hours/days? >.< Faaaaaaaawking brutal.

Im sure you guys experienced similar states and what helps?
THIS >>> The ptsd cup explanation

Both in managing once already eyeballs deep AND in preventing them to begin with. Nothing but nothing I have found in 20 some odd years has been as helpful as really wrapping my head around the PTSD Stress Cup.

In a nutshell? Increased stress = increased symptoms. ANY symptom, and any combo of symptoms. Either nudged, or drop kicked into the stratosphere. Creeping or KaPOW. That’s probably why you’re having difficulty isolating triggers… as it wouldn’t be from being triggered… it would be from PTSD reacting to (unmanaged) stress the way that PTSD does.

Thank you so much!!!♥️ Reading this really helps me navigate my internal feelings. I will read about the ptsd stress cup today.

Chanting and humming helps me as well. I
Will try sonic vibrations .
chanting and humming ARE sonic vibrations. they are what causes sound. the vibrations from your larynx resonate throughout your body, most especially inside the skull. as you chant/hum/sing/speak, pay attention to where those vibrations are resonating. once the awareness of the phenom starts growing it becomes quite easy to manipulate the flow of the vibrations directly to the sore spots. tones count, too. different tones run on different frequencies and create different vibes.

i've wondered if talking so often helps because of those vibrations as much as the cathartic release. just wondering. i'll leave the experting to the experts.

I have the same type of symptoms at the start of a relapse into what I call an episode. I shake, and have warm flashes. I can’t sleep and when I do my unconscious mind startles me to sit up and I feel uncontrollable fear. I am afraid to leave the apartment. It is exhausting and I feel like my legs and body are lead. The only thing that helps in a muscle relaxer, so I believe it is definitely anxiety. However, I also cannot eat so my state is exaggerated by lack of nutrition. Then the depression sets in… It is the same procedure every time it hits. The strength of the episode depends on the stressors. I really understand, it is confusing and scary… I am learning to not let my stressors get so bad that I snap, and then my recovery time is shorter. Unfortunately I didn’t listen to my body this episode and although it wasn’t as strong as the last one, I am just coming out after 5 months of not being able to work. It is so frustrating. I welcome you to the forum and hope it helps you the way it has helped me. 🧚
