What are your favourite TV shows and movies? I love most HBO shows, which is a cable network in the US.
If you ever saw the movie "Psycho" in the sixties, you must see the series, "Bates Motel". It is a prequel to the movie and shows how Norman and his mother came to live at the motel. As it unfolds you can understand what led to Norman's state of mind and the complex, weird relationship he had with his mother that made it hard for him to 'let her go', even after her death. If you did see Psycho, let me know if you can manage to take a shower with the curtain closed. I can't.
"True Detective" stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaghy as Southern detectives dealing with their own lives in a small town rural area and a serial killer.
"Fargo" is set in Minneapolis and is a prequel to the movie "Fargo". It is fascinating.
Of course, if you have not watched "Game of Thrones", you need to get that or you will not have a totally fulfilled life at all. Peter Dinklage is a goddam genius and also my new boyfriend, (shut up now, he is so).
As for movies, "Non-Stop" with Liam Neeson is an air marshall on a flight, post 9/11, who receives messages from an unknown source on the plane and everyone is a potential suspect. Great movie.
An older HBO series that is a definite must-see is "Deadwood". Set in the actual town of Deadwood that is famous for the shootout that resulted in the death of Wild Bill Hickock. If you have a problem with full-on language using every swear word you can think of, to excess, you won't like it. For me, it gave us a whole new set of phrases to yell in the car. Look out for Ian McShane who plays Swearengen, the publican and crime boss.
The perfect series for men and women is "Justified". Timothy Oliphant is yummo. I could watch him walk for hours, replaying the visual over and over. He plays a US federal marshal and it is set in the deep South. Lots of tight black jeans on those long legs. Another actor who plays his adversary is Walton Goggins, who is my second new boyfriend just once in a while. This show is a definite must-see.
"Hannibal" is a series based on the Thomas Harris character from the movie "Silence of the Lambs". It stars
Mads Mikkelson who plays the younger Hannibal who is a practising Psychiatrist with extra-curricular interests that include gourmet food preparation and dinner parties.
