Assault Uber, Lyft, and other rideshare and transport companies

They are FBI fingerprint background checked like all cab companies here, above and beyond all the rest of the rideshares and random transport companies.

Not fingerprinted, but at least Uber and Lyft drivers are background checked, too.

Was a 911 dispatcher for 20 years
You can't pay me to use one of those ride sharing services
Just sayin.

I grew up being taught not to get into the car with >anyone< but friends and family. To this day, I would never hitchhike or use ride shares. This is hard wired for me. In my country we have (had? no idea) a ride share kinda thing not like Uber or Lyft which is actually highly organized and background-checked but just really among "peers" (it was aimed at students to go home during weekends etc. and save on transportation) on a review and trust basis, like couch surfing. This is a trust on so many levels (are they responsible drivers?) I just cannot manage to build up.

Care to share why? My son uses them every day.
Some of the problems I see...
No real background checks on the drivers so you have no idea who or what they are. I think the one they do is a very simple one that doesn't tell you squat
No central dispatch center so there is no one monitoring where the driver is actually going or how long it should take to get from point A to point b
No overview of the drivers ability to drive ...no chauffeurs licence
No recourse if something goes wrong - as shown by lyft sending bills for the ride to the women who reported assaults
No way no know that the car you are getting into is actually a driver for the company. Any random person can stick a sticker on the window
Many of them refuse to take service dogs. They aren't supposed to refuse, but they do and then you are stranded.

basically you are relying on the kindness of strangers and it can work out well for both of you. But for me? Nope. At least a cab service has a dispatcher monitoring the situation.

and for those doing the driving? Taxi driving is a pretty dangerous job but they have a radio to call for help. The ride share folks? They are out there totally on their own.

I do have some friends who use them and who drive for them and they havent had problems but........It's not for me. Way to much risk

Ok I thought maybe there were specific incidents. Thank you.

This triggers me badly though I avoid that word. I spent a lot of time going into situations with fear and loathing. I couldn't fight back so it was that helpless feeling over and over.

Reading this brings that back and my desire to "save or protect" my self and others. It's the feeling I have from fawning. It's ugly. : (
