Sufferer Understanding cptsd and thinking about Edmr

Thank you all for your kind comments and advice, here’s me being naive thinking a few emdr sessions will sort me out, sounds far from it, in day to day life I feel in control but I’m always dragged to wanting something or wanting more, I’ve always played sports from childhood followed by drink and once pushed to a point of to much then another person comes out where destruction can happen…. From my counselling 18months ago I was finding ways and spotting the triggers etc and felt in control, but obviously started to slip without realising. So here I am back to the start again.
It can feel like that, back to start, but I think it is a moving ahead from all of the work you have already done. It is so disheartening I know! I was doing pretty okay and then before I realized it I was stuck again. I can completely sympathize. My son always reminds me everyone has ups and downs… mine are human too, perhaps more intense. I have also learned I can’t control things… but I can work on my reaction, which is hard when dealing with PTSD and its symptoms 🧚‍♂️

I have done EMDR, it was very effective for me when dealing with childhood issues. Adult ones not so much.

It is very very destabilising, like others have said the several days afterwards can be quite difficult. Caused a few age regression issues with some particularly bad stuff. Helped me to assert myself, set boundaries and understand a lot. Processed, resolved and remembered a lot more details, very difficult. Helped with context and memory processing though.

You need a calm safe environment for all of it, before, after and during the whole time. I did not and it left me vulnerable to abusive people during.

Definitely worthwhile, your T should check with you and if it's not helping stop. I did some test sessions first to see how it would affect me, maybe test it yourself.

Well done for looking into it and trying to resolve some issues. Im new here, nice people, this helps as much as EMDR did.
