@anthony in regards to your question, I think 9/11 was a huge turning point for the U.S...
You nailed it talking about jobs at McDonalds. I still see people say that today on social media and it makes me so sad.

As a parent..... I am trying to teach children you cannot believe everything you read on the Internet or see on the news. Sadly many adults don't know this.

I've really learned a lot from this post and appreciate all the different opinions.

"Inflation" numbers reflects deflation too. The government usage of the term "inflation" is a guideline...

Inflation numbers only show deflation if they are negative. Fact. Inflation is a rate, not an absolute number. Fact. I stand by what I said. My balloon analogy is spot on.

Do you understand the difference between absolute numbers and rates? They cannot be treated or interpreted the same.

I didn't either... I'm sorry if you find it condescending, or that my knowledge of the subject makes you uncomfortable. I went beyond Econ 101 in college and I won't apologize for being able to know how to obtain information, follow it, digest it, and use it in my everyday life. I subscribe to numerous monthly Econ reports, but I can't post them here bc of copywrite infringement. So, I had to go to labor and statistics to prove what I was saying. Anthony asked me to cite proof so it wasn't a he said, she said deal. I did that. It sucks that you feel the need to make a comment like that. Perhaps it is to make yourself feel better just because you either don't have knowledge of the subject, or just disagree I don't know but it was uncalled for in my opinion. I have done nothing but offer information and knowledge.

Which is at least part of the reason there are huge dairy farms in CA, and area that really isn't cut out for cows, considering limitations on available water and competition with people for living space etc.
Southern California isn't but the central valley and the north valley are perfect for it. They are hella desolate places (You might be from No. Cal if.. ) without farming. Most of the population in California is all lumped together in the bay area and So. Cal. The water issue though...yeah that is a problem. Everything else spot on, and yes, it was about social security.

Sorry for the No. Cal inside joke. I couldn't resist. If it doesn't make sense, just disregard it as a No. Cal thing.

Through out this conversation, one thing that has stuck out in my mind is the fact the 10, even 5 years ago, people were clamoring to get lobbyists out of Washington. Now we have a lobbyist sitting in the Oval Office. It seems to me another thing that Trump voters forgot they wanted.

It is important to realize that we have seen a disappearance over the last 8-10 years of good paying union work force jobs
Those jobs have been leaving for longer than that and not just because they've gone over seas. I can't give you a date without looking up stuff that's hard to look up on my phone, but Reagan attacking the air traffic controllers union comes to mind as the obvious opening salvo. And the reason? Because unions give us peons some bargaining power. They are a move to level the playing field. Are they perfect? No. But I'd bet the decline in union membership and the decline in real wages align fairly neatly.
in order for jobs to stay here and stuff be produced here, we need a tax system that allows corporations to maintain a profit margin acceptable to their shareholder.
That's one of the places I think our system had run off the rails. Companies exist to provide goods and services. They earn money seeking what they produce. The money they earn gets reinvested in the company and paid to labor. 'Stockholders' should be a very small part of the picture, if they're in the picture st all. A stockholder should be sometime like you're uncle Joe who wants to invest in your business because he believe you and wants you have a chance. Add it is, our system has morphed into something where the stockholders matter more than anything else. They don't produce anything. They gamble for a living. Our corporate taxes might be too high, but we've got to, somehow, move away from this system where the stockholders are the most important people the room.

Thank you, Scout! Unions created the middle class in America. When Reagan fired the air traffic controllers, that was the beginning of the end. I will never forgive him for that.

So, for the first time in about 20 years, our White House did not host an Eid dinner this year. This is just stupid. It would be a no-brainer for the White House chefs to create a nice meal and for the president to invite Rep. Keith Ellison and other prominent Muslims and their families. But, noooo. I think it's shameful.

From personal experience, it doesn't take much to really connect with others. A meal shared in common can go a long way. As would showing the same respect to this major Muslim holiday as to others.
