@Justmehere. Not sure about that. Let me do a lil research.

@She Cat. Hmmm. The population of Texas and Florida combined is right around 48,000,000 . Puerto Rico's is 3.4 million.
Do the math. You want him to send 71,000 people to a small island. Whose airports are not in working order. You act like he doesn't care. He IS doing all he can.

And I'm guessing alot of those 71,000 are volunteers. Maybe you could volunteer your time and money to help too.

I knew I shouldn't have responded to this thread. Nothing but negativity and arguments.

@leehalf Please explain to all of us here exactly what Trump is trying his best to do??? Because all I have seen so far is...

1 He lies about everything.
2 Most of his inner circle is or has been involved with Russian mobsters
3 The waste that he said he’s getting rid of and draining the swamp, let’s talk about the waste his own cabinet member are doing flying around in planes and charging the taxpayers.
4 His tax plan, which if you read up on, is only going to benefit the rich and hurt the poor and middle class once again....
5 The health care plan that just failed would have cut 30million off insurance, and it would have made premiums go up for those that could afford it, but he was so disappointed it failed. Didn’t he run on insurance for ALL people at a lower cost??????

I could go on and on but it’s way too early in the morning...

Do you really want to justify sending only 7000 people to help out Puerto Rico, when we’re talking about people’s lives??????? Really?????? It’s been over a week and they still don’t have power on 95% of the island. This isn’t about % it’s about Trump being pissed off that Puerto Rico owes $$. Trump has only mentioned it several times in the past week!!! He could give a rats ass about the people, it’s all about the $$.....

Cool.

I've been looking for a explaination on why Trump hasn't lifted the Jones Act, from pro-Trump sources, and I haven't seen any explanation. If you run across one, I'm interested in reading more. I like to try to understand both sides better, to try to not get caught up in my own confirmation bias. (Which almost everyone has to some degree.)

It is a horrible situation in Puerto Rico right now, and they are logistically harder to reach than Texas or Florida. From what I have read, their infrastructure was already struggling, and they were hit much harder than TX or FL. Even with the very best help and response from the federal government, things are going to be much more difficult there for reasons that can not be blamed on Trump or entirely solved by Trump. While the population of Texas and Florida is bigger, the numbers of people caught in the storm with no hope of escape and the totality of the damage is much greater in Puerto Rico. Some places in Florida and Texas without power for a few weeks, but most hospitals were generally able to still run life support easily.

While in Puerto Rico, they were hit twice, and won't have power back for months and months, and the children's hospital in particular is really struggling to find enough fuel to keep the generators going to keep kids on ventilators alive.

Disasters are disasters, and @leehalf, you are are right to suggest more people should help. I believe the federal government and defense department - and the American people - need to step up even more. (I found a way to help myself.)

I've been very aware that this thread has become very Trump focused, and there have not been many pro-Trump posts. Healthy debate and respectful disagreement is to be expected here.

I'd like to remind everyone to review the first post in this thread here.

Moving on from Trump, I've been wondering why Puerto Rico isn't a state with full representation in congress with the ability to vote. They can vote in primaries...and that's about it. I guess I need to go do some more research on this myself.

@Justmehere, that's good news.

And I've found a way to help (a little) too.
Went door to door in my neighborhood and collected toiletries and non perishable foods. I did the same thing during Katrina. People want to help, they just don't want to leave the comfort of their homes.

It's amazing the amount of things I collected. Three car loads full. My nephew is a Detroit LEO and they took donations for the cause.

Praying for Puerto Rico! And the Caribbean too.

Ok Trumps statement today....”Puerto Rico is an island, it’s surrounded by water, big water...”. Ok, so he got his geography right on this one. What in the f*ck does he think about St Thomas and St John’s??? Are they lollipops???? OMG just bang my head against the wall.

And then he fired or asked Price to resign.. ONE MORE DOWN!!!! Lol

What I don't understand is why it seems like no matter what you choose, it's impossible to get along - you feel attacked on both sides no matter what, regardless. This is what bothers me and I think bothers most Americans if they're honest about it. If the people didn't attack each other over views, can't we have and feel free to express our views? The way I see it I'm just sick of it. It feels like it's being purposely done to our country by something, or someone... George Soros? I don't know but I am sick of it and personally, it seems to me as if Americans of any tradition are attacked just for that tradition, that I feel is wrong. And there are other ways to go about it other than insulting people which I see the far left doing constantly. I think the left has been hijacked. I think it all has been hijacked, honestly and both sides. I'm not for the right either because I'm not about war and don't care about arguing. I have conservative leanings but don't involve myself in mainstream news. But I do have a family and care about them and I feel that I'm being attacked often just because of that and who I am and where I come from.
