Senator Flake has just announced that he won’t seek re-election either due to failing numbers.
I heard part of it on the radio this afternoon. Good speech! I'm not sure having someone like him quit actually helps, who knows who'll replace him. I AM glad to hear Republicans speaking up for manners (for lack of a better term). I'm just sad that the ones who are speaking up also seem to be getting out of politics.

I've read some analysts say his speech should be listened to in civics classes.....

I wish he would stay in! I also get why someone would leave. It begins to zap your soul.

A friend and I have a debate about if we would serve as an adviser to Trump if he asked. Say yes, and be able to tell him he's a fool knowing it would not last long, but try to limit the damage while one could and bring change from within... or
say no and keep away from it all... as a way to show it's wrong and stay away from the fray all together...

We need to really shore up those on the left and the right who are decent good principled humans who are willing and able to stay in for a time.

Also, term limits. We need term limits on congressional reps so that no one gets comfortable in these positions of power and thinks it lasts forever anyhow - I think that will help more feel like they can speak up and not "risk" a reelection campaign that would not happen anyhow.

@scout86 Yes, I agree with you. The good ones are leaving and not enough republicans are speaking out. I listened to Mitch yesterday after Flake’s speech. He totally evaded the questions reporters asked about if he has concern with so many leaving because of Trump and Trumpism and he talked about getting the agenda done. Same with Paul Ryan.

@Justmehere agree 100%

Now this because people listen to trump and his extreme twitter responses.

Just sickening....

I wish I wasn't wondering where 3 more years if this will take us...

I'm also trying to understand... They just passed a "pro-bank" measure that means it will continue to be hard for an individual who has been cheated by a big bank (Wells Fargo, for example), to after bank. How is it that the Trumpites don't see this as a case of the Republicans backing the big guys against the little guys? Don't get me wrong, I expect the Republicans to look out for big banks. It's a reason I'm not a Republican, but doesn't this sort of thing make it clear whose interests are REALLY considered important in Washington?

Its going to ensure that a democrat will be victorious as long as we can get a half way decent candidate that doesn't have a tarnished past.

PragerU sues Google, YouTube for 'censoring' conservative videos

Prager U actually does a great job at explaining conservative viewpoints in a factual and non-inflammatory way. Google and YouTube are private companies, so they can block content, but they claim free access for content such as this and have been proven to be censoring Prager U. For no legit cause.

I do not agree with all of Prager U's stances, but there is no reason for Google and YouTube to silence them.

Here's a good example of their typical video: Did FDR End the Great Depression?

Not sure how their lawsuit will turn out, or if it's even a good idea or not, but I hope the court of public opinion helps convince Google and YouTube to allows equal access to their videos on their platforms.

Hey guys, I'm semi-avoiding news right now. What's going on with the Clinton Foundation and the dossier? My radio station was on the conservative talk from where I was listening to a ballgame the other day and I heard something about treason?

My husband called me to the TV shortly after Flake began his speech. It was epic! I cried. I was reminded of how really good presidents like the Roosevelts and Lincoln (and he echoed Lincoln and Teddy) would talk. . . how they would remind us of our founding principles in such thoughtful, obviously heartfelt, and eloquent language. As far I'm concerned Flake carried on that vital tradition and brought us, even if momentarily, back to our moorings. It was the most beautiful thing I've heard from a congressperson in a long time, notwithstanding McCain's also epic speech when he came back to the Senate after starting his treatment.

I understand why he is retiring. He won't win unless he forsakes his conscience. I would do the same but keep working on the outside.

Oh, and just to be clear, I don't agree with how Flake votes on issues most of the time, but I so appreciate his heartfelt allegiance to our Constitution, morals, and traditions, and I pray his words struck at the hearts of other Republicans in Congress as much as they did mine.

@hodge I agree with you 100%. His speech was epic and so well spoken. He has a moral compass and he believes in the constitution. As does McCain and I believe others do too, but are afraid to speak out, for fear of being on the other end of a twitter tweet storm. It’s sad to know that many of the republicans are just so afraid of Trump and his twitter account that they cowtow to him and pretty much go along with his policies and tirades.

My only hope is that if they get their tax reform bill threw(even though it will hurt the middle class again). That maybe they will do something then. Honestly, I don’t think that the country can survive 3more yrs with him in office. Especially with the volitity in Notprth Korea going on. I think Trump is just trying to push Kim To do something so Trump can retaliate........ so very very scary!!!!!!
