And now, Trump has ordered the pentagon to put on a military parade. At the cost of millions of dollars, and yet he f*cking slashes programs, state and federal jobs and positions.

My head spins, cause when I think it can’t possibly get worse, it does.

What bothers me is how much people are so much into the party issue, instead of "lets get it done". You see, once the election is over, it's over. Time to knuckle down an get to work..."working together", 'mind you...to make America a better place. We are not going to get anywhere if we keep fighting it out after the elections. I have said this over and over.

What I find astonishing is of all the so-called educated people in the political world, few recognize the true value of America's current political stance. Is it a republic? Yeah, kinda. Is it a democracy? Yeah, kinda. Guess what? We also have socialist traits. Think about it.
The Labor Movement. Fair Labor Standards Act. FDR's "New Deal". Social Security Program. Unemployment Insurance. Uniform Commercial Code.

FDR himself said, much like what B. Obama and H. Clinton said, "The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those that have little."

Then we have communist traits, as well.
Foreign Aid Program. Federal (and state) Dept. of Education. Federal Dept. of the Interior. Federal Dept. of Agriculture. State agricultural development programs. Community Mental Health programs. "Welfare". Civil Rights Act of 1866 (extending the rights of emancipated slaves). Civil Rights Act of 1871 (prohibiting ethnic violence against African Americans). Civil Rights Act of 1875 (prohibiting discrimination in "public accommodations"). Civil Rights Act of 1957 (creation of the Civil Rights Commission). Civil Rights Act of 1960 (creating federally mandated inspections of local voter registration polls). Civil Rights Act of 1964 (prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin by federal and state governments). Civil Rights Act of 1968 (prohibiting discrimination in housing based on race, creed, and national origin). Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987 (specifying that recipients of federal funds must comply with civil rights laws in all programs).

To us it's "all American", when truly you would be stretching it to say either pure democracy or pure nationalism would be supportive of these. Yeah, I said "the cursed name"- nationalism. Which truly is the parent of Republican party, however, that itself is a suborder of the Democratic-Federalist party, which, in origin, the DNC and GOP split apart from and were literally so closely aligned that Thomas Jefferson wanted nothing to do with either, humorously labeling them as "a bunch of jack asses and lazy scoundrels" (as referred by my American Politics professor's dissertation). I have to dig around and find the report I did on just this subject, as I covered that about a year ago here in college.

But let us dream, if only for a moment. Where would America go, what could America become, if republicans and democrats actually DID start working together in the best interests of America, and not their parties?

Military Parade, just another way to spend money that we don’t have. Just another way to show that, “my button is bigger than your button and it works”. And the fact that it would leave us vulnerable to attack.

Yes, our leaders in both parties need to learn to work together. They need to remember that it’s for the people and not what they think or feel. They also need to remember that a budget is a budget and you can only spend what you have and no more. Our deficit is absolutely ridiculous. And yet a wall and a parade is a must?!?!?!?!?

I think, if the goal is to show support and appreciation for the military, it would make a lot more sense to pay people enough so they didn't need a pay day loan to make it to the next check, and do things like hire more good mental health professionals so they have half a chance of being able to do all that needs to be done. There are a lot of other ways that money could be spent, a parade is ridiculous.

She Cat & Scout, to think that any of our leaders would not consider those issues is insane. People fail to recognize that the POTUS has far more informational resources than any of us can even dare imagine. You don't run a country with high hopes and best wishes. You run a country by knowing everything you can. Sure, mistakes can be made. Everyone makes them. But for the most part the POTUS knows what he's doing. In this case, the military parade, I as a veteran support it.

We can’t afford a parade, we are trillions of dollars in debt as it is. If I were a vet, I would want the money spent on ways to combat PTSD, more therapy, better individual and group therapy, more $$ spent on medical procedures, more help at the VA hospitals. Training for support dogs, and to supply the dogs.

There are many more ways to support our troops and to show them how grateful we are, than a parade that will only bolster the egos of a few....

I think the parade is ridiculous. I appreciate all our vets and would have no problem with providing more services, as others have said. We have to be realistic about spending yet we have so many homeless out in zero temperatures right now, and many are vets. I don't enjoy criticizing our president but staying silent about things such as this is like sitting with a mouth full of poo and not saying yuck!

@brat17 The are a million ways that we could spend the dollars that Trump will spend on a parade. From helping vets, to homeless, to putting $$ back into the deficit or funding some of the programs that he has slashed to the core or eliminated all together.

I would still love to know where all the money is from slashing all those programs, slashing the jobs in the federal government and the state dept.... just makes me crazy!!!!

I think the same way as you do She Cat. We have huge deficit, everything else is being slashed, and he thinks a parade will do what? It could be spent in so many areas. I could really rant on this but I won't. I will just say that in my opinion, it compares with a family that is deep in debt, can't afford necessities, but throws a big party or buys a boat. His behaviors and actions are horrible. Its pretty bad when we have to tell children to not behave like our president....but thats another issue.
