I just about fell off the bed this morning, when the latest figures are in for the US... $50 deficit for the past month. No wonder the country is is ruins.

Can someone please please please tell the US politicians to half their military's size, sell of half the equipment, stop trying to assume the worlds peacekeeper role, which there is zero entitlement too, and start saving some $$$ and putting it back within their own economy!

They should have, slap a politician day back to reality. It would be a winner I think

When your politicians have all had a good slapping.

The UK ones are next, for claiming so many stupid expenses and then expecting us to pay extra taxes and VAT increases, to help pull them out of the mess they have got us into.

Maybe then some of our military could have the correct equipment to keep them safer.

Our NHS or council would not have to cut the Mental Health and other budget's back so much, having to close centers that are desperately needed by so many everyday.

Getting of my soap box now, before I go go too far.

Yes, the politicians require a good slap, but they're really just power-mongers with bad haircuts. It's the dam press, owned by the rest of the Oligarchy who pretty much owns them and pulls all the strings. Money money money money money while the American people's dearest ideals are used to sell us all down the river. We're not a bad lot, we Yanks. We genuinely mostly believe in the ideas which founded this country- actual freedoms in life, democracy in government, equality of humankind- but therein lies the problem. When the war between the states errupted, our Civil War, 99 % of the Southern soldiers left hearth and home, some quite literally barefooted, for an ideal-their 'rights'. The war, no matter how it's been drawn by revisionists, was about slavery-owning other human beings, because the great plantations and the way of life of the southern aristocracy could not exist without this free toil. Less than 100 years after winning our genuine rights from England, the 'new' aristocracy knew how to speak to these good, solid, believing citizens- the southern soldiers who fought and died by the thousands owned no slaves, most not even land and had no financial stake in winning anything in the war beyond this 'ideal'. It was hollow, sincere on the part of the citizenry, but greed at the core for those who drove the intent. I see the same thing in 2011. The politicians keep up the flag-waving- we have to go to war for whatever reason, we don't need a national health care system, the 'real enemy' is some army of poor, quite literally shoeless immigrants- pick the agenda and somewhere behind it is a mega-corp ( Haliburton to name one- Dick Cheney's baby which provides such abysmal 'support' to our troops at nauseating costs plus were responsible for the cement in the failed cap on the oil well in the Gulf. Ahem- British Petroleum. ). This is getting long, so please excuse but the point being that we as Americans really are not reflective of our politicians. They are the disconnect, aided mightily by the press- who are owned by the Oligarchy, basically. This country is in such troubled times because we as a people really do believe we're living in, and voting for a democracy. The politicians ( mostly ) and those who have them in their pockets know this to be a lie.

Sorry so long- the conservatives are trying to block health care again on the vague grounds that it's against some American ideal so I'm a little wound up on this whole subject.

Just a brief insight into my 'local economy' - while the council have been spending 'my' council tax putting up fancy sculptures to mark cycle paths and pedestrian/public footpaths, they have decided to turn off all our street lighting for 5 hours every night (between midnight and 5am). Of course they use 'carbon emissions' as their excuse, but really it's just to save money. Why spend money on stupid sculptures, that will just get vandalised when the street lights are off and no-one can see them being vandalised?

Yep, I do wonder about some council decisions at times. We had a funny one here a while back, they showed some of the stupid stuff councils have done, ie. allowed the construction of a driveway and garage, but not allowed the power pole to be moved from the middle of it, or bus seat that sits across the driveway... stupid, stupid things...

This morning, Egypt got their president out by nothing more than people power and the US only send Egypt $2Billion per annum for military funding. The US have now spend $3Trillion on Iraq trying to push democracy upon it, and still failed. Imagine if they spend that money on their own country?

Now Anthony, why would they do that? We are so busy trying to take care of people who don't want to be taken care of, that to actually take some funds and lets say...feed the hungry..just that, feed the hungry! The hungry don't have money to eat let alone have money for let's say...a political voice, so nope! The hungry are to weak to vote and you can't hear their voices anyhow because of malnutrition, but heh! Americans LOVE to buy pure bred puppies from puppy mills and dress them up like they are their children with designer sweaters and booties...(don't get me wrong, I love all animals but detest trying to put them in human clothes) I know they hate it!!!

Of course we have to thank all the billionaires that are mad because of certain tax changes. After all, when you have a surplus of millions just sitting in the bank drawing interest, you can say that it's your prudent reserve. You know something just in case...then the middle class gets on their high horse and complains about paying for the rich and the poor while most take their credit cards to the max and live WAY beyond their means to keep up with the "Jones". Meanwhile they can file bankruptcy, and all of us that have paid for everything they own with cash pays for their homes and stuff also! And the poor..well God bless them...most of them have found a way to "work the system" so that they don't have to work, pay taxes, have fairly nice govt. homes, expensive vehicles, free food, and free education just by learning how to fill out the proper paperwork and having a good appeal lawyer should they be denied. They almost sound like the smart ones!! My sister-in-law, who went to college to be an engineer and dropped out at the last minute, is in this catagory. I can't blame her, it would cost her more to be in school/work engineer and pay for 3 kids (single parent) with insurance, clothes, etc...(I know it sounds not right) than to stay home and have the govt. raise and educate her 3 kids. (which she did in fine fashion) One is in medicine, one owns his own business in Seattle with a Masters in poetry and is married to a writer, and one with a degree in business.

It seems, in my opinion, that America thinks it "is better to look good than to feel good". Yeah democracy!

Maybe at a certain level this is possible, but on the other hand, for the truly poor, the Welfare state no longer exists any more. Clinton was bludgeoned into signing it out of existance, hence adding to the homeless popolation reagan started by closing all the mental instutions. There always has to be some imaginary 'enemy' for the politicians to get everybody mad at- to point at as the cause of allllll the problems. It's always let's see- the poor people on Welfare, laying around on Uncle Sam's dime enjoying some imaginary life of luxury on 'our' taxes. Nope- it no longer exists- as in for real- it's just not there. Food stamps for severly disabled people have been cut, and cut again to the point where I personally KNOW caregivers who bring food from their own homes to eck out the rations for these individuals. Those single mothers who make sensational press by making beds in their car trunks so they can 'take their children to work'? Can't afford child care, can't afford not to work. Elderly people who eat cat food on crackers and that's not enough-they're still found frozen the next day after a deep freeze through no heating oil. The 'terrorists' we're spending billions on to keep out by building a wall between us and mexico- those terrifying barefoot starving illegals who are desparate to work, not blow us up. There are no programs any more anywhere to help any of these- this is that America, yet these are the phantom enemy pointed to and somehow 'protected' against. The politicians gain votes by raising outrage that these helpless masses gain 'free' help-while yes, trillions get poured down the toilet elsewhere in the name of other 'Freedoms'. Maybe the loopholes exist elsewhere, exploited by those with the resources to find and use them but they do so on the backs of those truly in need so more shame on them.

Jesus said that the poor will be with us always. Yea- but not in this town.
