My GF, a PTSD Sufferer is spoiling the otherwise enjoyable activity of Dog Walking. She counts her paces, sometimes quite audibly. She doesn't know why she has to do it, she just has to. She can be in the thousands, stop to look at something or even stop for sustenance then know exactly where she left off and start counting again.
Has anyone any experience of this, or similar, or is this more OCD ?

Not PTSD.

I'm trying to imagine how it spoils walking the dogs, though, and failing. I can see it spoiling conversation, but not a pleasant stroll.

Thank you for your confirmafions Agow and Watug.
Cuhewo, of course you are right it can only really spoil conversation, not the pleasant strole, but when the strole becomes a route march, which it does, the whole thing becomes a bit arduous.
Ohule yes, never misses, can be twice a day, disconnecting.......it probably is. I actually find myself disconnecting to preserve my own sanity.

It doesn't really have to be a distraction, it could also/just as easily be a coping technique to distract from the experience (?) Sorry coming in late here.
