Washington vs. Iraq - Funny Factual Comment

I'm not laughing. As a victim of gun violence (the major source of my ptsd) I hate the idea that civilians carry them. Personally (and I do mean this is my opinion) I don't mind if someone has one in their home to protect themselves in their home, or if they have guns for sport - i.e. hunting or clay shooting. But to carry around one on the streets - legal or not - you're asking for death. Even if I were armed the night of my assult, nothing would have changed except the fact that I may have shot an innocent person. There is a lot of uncertainty when it comes to guns, and carrying one. I'm sure many think "I will save the day" but when you're in that moment - there is no certainty of what will happen. Period.

Add to that, that statistically the number of civilians trying to defend themselves with a gun are more likely have the intruder snatch the gun from them and use it against them.

My stepfather, who is an avid gun and rifle owner, ended up years ago with a cold. He took too much cough syrup and found himself with his current gun at the time up against his temple.

In a city, using guns is simply dangerous. Too many people (incl. kids) have died from ricocheting bullets that were never meant for them or anyone in their house.

So I would vote to keep the guns out.

Personally, I would prefer the option to protect myself from as much distance as I can get from someone attempting to attack me. I'm not very well equipped to defend myself hand to hand. Especially since it's usually someone twice my size that wants to fight me hand to hand. I have defended myself with a gun a couple times. I wouldn't be writing this if I hadn't had a gun both times.

As for hand to hand being "no violence"... I'm pretty sure the many times I got the crap kicked out of me without a gun still counts as violence. ( I understand the point of the statement... it just bothered me a little so I had to point it out.)

I don't think guns are really the problem. I think people are the problem. When people can stop being so violent the problem will be solved.
