Weighted blanket and other measures for better sleep

73 is warm to me. LOL....I'm like 65 degrees at night, and research shows people sleep better in colder temps than hot and in my case, that works. I'm about 12 lbs of blankets, heavy blankets help keep me asleep (oh, and a couple of magnesium citrate help a lot, too!). I can't sleep with just a sheet over me....or a lightweight blanket....quilts are worthless. There is comfort in weight.

oooh I'd love 65f under a mass of blankets, my electric bill would be ridiculous though. I do miss the cold and the piles of blankets, then morning where the hot water in the shower steams up the bathroom. Right now I just use a sheet and one of those inexpensive fleece blankets that I have to play tug of war with every night because it's never seems long enough...so annoying. I need to make my bedding a priority.

A handful of nights with the blanket so far, and I love it. I haven't noticed any changes, but I feel really comfortable with it, so that's something.

I've been pondering getting some ear buds that actually play back sound - only to find out they discontinued those. Bummer.

I have a salt rock lamp. Everyone I know has one. It's relatively inexpensive and works for me. It's on Amazon but it may be cheaper at Wal-mart ( haven't looked)

@siniang glad it feels comfortable. Do you notice a feeling of unusual relaxation when you initially cover yourself?

No, not really ??‍♀️

I have a salt rock lamp.

I used to have a salt rock lamp. It slowly disintegrated after moving it to a humid climate. I also recently learned that they're reeeeaaaally toxic for pets (when they end up licking on them)

I suffer from chronic fatigue, have been for the better part of the last decade or so. It's not that I don't sleep enough (I average 8-9hrs in bed), but I don't seem to get restful sleep. I often wake up feeling like I've been run over by a truck, not seldom head-achy. I wake up a lot during the night, but never have trouble falling back asleep.

A sleep study earlier this year didn't shed any real light on this. I don't have sleep apnea. They found slight restless leg, but otherwise no significantly increased arousal or change to my sleep phases.

I don't suffer from frequent nightmares, but I did see an increase in early-night hallucinations that make me jerk out of bed over the last year or so, and I do have occasional night terrors (every several months). I think most of my PTSD symptoms are night-time related. Like increased hypervigilance.

Recently, I've been hurting quite a bit at night with lower back pain and pain in other areas/joints. (not sure if we need a new mattress, this one isn't THAT old yet). Wakes me up often, in addition.

So, bottom-line, I sleep like crap. Lately I've been toying with the idea of getting a weighted blanket and just give it a try. Since it's supposed to help with stress, anxiety etc. What are your experiences? I'm a little worried that it might get too hot (sleeping with the window open is not an option, no A/C available). I also prefer to actually kind of wrap myself, I don't like open ends.

I've also been thinking what else I could change/still try that I haven't tried, yet. My PsyDoc mentioned I could use ear plugs as to not wake up at every slightest sound, but the sheer thought of NOT being able to hear sounds drives my hypervigilance/anxiety through the roof. Not sure if white noise would help... I know we tried it a couple of times, but hubby slept considerably worse when we had it on.

Ooooh! A weighted blanket! I've heard these are very comforting! I would love to get one of these for even flashback periods. May help with my exposure experiment. bleh >.<"

/love

So, it's been a couple of weeks with the weighted blanket. I really love it - but I don't notice any difference.

I feel like I could even go one weight up and would still be comfortable. I don't even feel the weight anymore after several minutes, it feels like just a blanket.
