Whew. Well things were better, now they are worse...
So my step daughter was downtown last night, picked a fight with 5 dudes, and lost.
Then, went to the hospital for 3 grand worth of tests, which my wifes shitty insurance will not cover the bulk of, then mouthed off to a cop...the list goes on. My wife decided to rush down and play helicopter mommy. That failed for obvious reasons.(NOTE: The kid is fine. She got cold cocked in the face, doesn't even have a bruise...goddamned hysterical hypochondriac, that one.)
So the wife comes home after the fiasco and unloads on me. Not in a bad way mind you, she just needed someone to talk to as she has effectively exiled everyone else. I did everything right. I listened. I offered my opinion only when asked...blah blah blah. She went on and on about how SHE was the victim because (big shocker) the daughter didn't want mommy involved.
What bothers me about the situation, beyond getting woken up from the hour our two of precious sleep I get these days, is that as smart as she is, she went on and on about everything her daughters behavior has done to her and never once realized that she was describing her own behaviors of the last few years. Talk about carbon copies. When shit gets real, it is everyone else's fault every single time.
Exhausted as I was, I managed to not to point that out. Though I did drop a few hints.
Then she asks me how I would handle the situation if it had been my son. I told her the truth: I would have kicked the living shit out of him for picking a fight, 20 years old or not! (Mind you we would have sat around and had a few beers afterwords and discussed the errors of his ways...) It is a long standing rule in my family growing up: We don't pick fights, we finish them. Pick a fight? The fight is the least of your worries. Dad, Grandpa, and whatever uncles may be around will make your life miserable in turn. 9On that note, this is likely why defensive systems were my thing in my early Navy career...)
Now I don't feel like going into details, but the step daughter has been completely out of control since she started college. I had pointed this out a few times before, but there is just some things you are wasting your time in discussing with my wife.
I'm really to the point I wish they both would just frakkin' leave. Tired of crazy suburban Mexican Princess Drama.
