Last Saturday, I had sex with my Brazilian cleaner. There had already been flirting and attraction between us, and things became intimate. I haven’t really been dating for a long time because of my health problems and chronic pain, so I think I became more emotionally attached to the situation than I expected.
Afterwards, she kept texting me every day. She told me she missed me, thought about me during the day, and was very attracted to me. She also talked about how much she enjoyed being with me. Because of all that, I started thinking that maybe this could turn into something more serious.
At the same time, I was already dealing with a lot of anxiety about my health and relationships. I was worried about putting too much of my problems on her, and I wasn’t really sure how I should behave because she was also my cleaner.
We had planned to go out together the following Sunday. Then, a few days later, she told me that she had been thinking about everything and that her feelings had changed. She said she didn’t think she wanted a relationship anymore and explained that she felt I hadn’t shown enough care or consideration towards her.
She mentioned a few things that had bothered her. She said that after cleaning my flat and having sex, she was hungry and felt that I hadn’t really thought about her comfort. She was also upset that I hadn’t offered to help her get to the date, and that I had chosen an Italian restaurant without first asking what kind of food she liked. She also told me that she was exhausted from having to translate all of our conversations.
That was difficult for me because I honestly hadn’t meant to make her feel that way. Looking back, I think I was quite emotionally guarded and probably came across as colder and more distant than I realised.
I accepted her decision and told her I respected her honesty. I also asked whether she still wanted to continue cleaning my flat, because I didn’t want her to feel like she had to keep coming if she was uncomfortable. She said she was fine with continuing.
What really confused me was that after telling me she didn’t want a relationship, she continued talking to me sexually and telling me how much she had enjoyed our time together and how attracted she still was to me. She even joked that if I got too close or hugged her when she came to clean, she might not be able to control herself.
Then the following day she didn’t message me like she had been doing before. That sudden change made me feel confused and unsettled.
Since then, I’ve been going over everything in my head and trying to understand what actually happened. Part of me thinks she genuinely liked me and really enjoyed being with me, but then realised that we weren’t compatible as a couple. Another part of me wonders whether the intensity at the beginning was exaggerated or whether there was some manipulation involved.
I’ve also started wondering whether she has done similar things with other clients and whether she sometimes becomes sexually involved with them. I don’t actually have evidence that she does, but the thought has been bothering me because of how quickly everything became so intense and then changed.
I’ve also been blaming myself. I keep wondering whether I was too cold, whether my personality put her off, whether I handled the date badly, or whether being out of the dating world for so long made me forget how to behave with someone I’m interested in. I sometimes take rejection very personally and start thinking that there must be something wrong with me.
The whole situation has affected me much more than I expected. I’m confused, hurt, embarrassed and spending a lot of time replaying our conversations and trying to figure out what I did wrong or what her intentions really were.
I don’t want to automatically decide that she manipulated me, but I also don’t want to dismiss my feelings if something about the situation genuinely made me uncomfortable.
I want to understand why this affected me so strongly, how much of this is about what actually happened versus my own fears and attachment, and how I can handle situations like this better in the future.
