What Has Been Your Weirdest Trigger?

Good on you! Break the cycle!

Can a season/certain weather be a trigger or is that just a stressor? Autumn is a triggering period for me, I would say. I just remembered that, not that I forgot, but it has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember as a source of trouble. Autumn is my favorite season, oddly enough, but I also feel that I flashback more and lose touch with where I am a lot. I even get anxious when it approaches Fall. It's not as bad here because the South doesn't have the same Autumn as the northeast/New England area.

Where do I even start?

To name a few...

Cold/lukewarm showers (anything that's less than steaming hot, even in the summer)
The smell of wet dirt
Wearing a necklace, or any shirt that is close against my throat
A certain kind of vanilla scent, usually from candles
Eating asparagus???? I have no idea why

For me, really all triggers seem weird. But someone scraping their plate to get every last skerrick of food from it; that constant back and forth noise of the fork moving across the plate is the weirdest because I have no idea at all why it creates such a strong reaction and it does each time.

Pictures of myself as a child have been really stressing me out lately. It's kind of like the mirrors thing. But it's like I feel really different from her. Or like I let her down. I took down every picture of myself in my mom's house a couple of weeks ago. She got so mad at me! Oh well.

Being sent for a "return to work" evaluation at a famous Alcohol and Drug Treatment center in the South. At the end of two hours of psychological testing they blindfolded me. I have been messed up and having intense nightmares ever since. One reason you're being re-evaluated is PTSD. Even the detective in Dexter knew not to blindfold a trauma survivor!

Clothes over head.....eeck. I was trying to see if I could be social enough to be in a play and we had a costume. It had to go on over head and the lady helping me lifted it up and started. It was long and big, like a stupid, long, sillly wedding dress with all sorts of lace and little things to get caught.

Well, I started to panic right off because it was very scary. Then it SNAGGED on something and she said, "Just a minute" . That, to me, was an indication I was going to be in there a LONG time and I totally panicked, no breathing, shaking, etc......

Lucky for her, she got it un-snagged but once it was on, all I could think about was going through that to get it off!! So I ordered it right off!!

I was shaking and smiling to try to hide it. She thought, HUH?

Never did that again!
