What Made You Happy Today?

One of the students in the class I'm subbing for this week wrote me a full page letter thanking me for helping her to understand the math in a way that she has not been able to before. It's a wonderful gift when we know in the moment when we have made a difference in the life of another person...as she did with me. :) The letter not only made my heart smile, but brought wonderful tears to my eyes.

My dog's love fest with me in the morning. The minute I stretch she is right there with kisses and lovins. She gets her share too. She always acts like she hasn't seen me for days! Then she follows me in my routines of the morning. So reassuring and always happy moments.

Today, two different students on two different periods deliverd a cupcake to me. They had an extra one from their other class party, but they thought of me. It's no small gift (and I don't mean the cupcake) when students continue to think about a teacher when they're in other classrooms; it is a gift that can't be bought. And I would not normally eat sweets like cupcakes, but I ate them today, and enjoyed every last piece of crumb.

What a lovely thread that I can post this blessing of joy today. :)

You must be a great teacher. I had quite a few of those and those are the one's I remember fondly and more often. They were my light in an otherwise dark part of my life. You just made me think of those happy times with your story. Thank you. :)

I've learned not to wait for happy, that's why I started this post. It doesn't have to be anything big, it could be something as simple as another person smiling at you today. Just anything that makes you feel good. It's really tough, trying to find a happy thought when dealing with the various types of trauma we have all suffered. That's why I try hard every day to think of something that makes me smile even a little, it makes the world seem a little less dark. Give it a try, I know you can think of something. ;)
