can I PLEASE BE HONEST? I am a stereo typed stiff upper lipped BRITT for queen and country. and to be fair guys it has made me be able to fight the good cause because I am supposed too. I am supposed to be better than the average GI because I am told I am better than you guys !!!" sorry I am so so sorry. but here I am 6 years after leaving H M ARMY " her majesty has abandoned me and my G I brotheren are my American friends. lets be open and honest I have been abandoned and I am asking for help from my American allies..i am so lucky I can only ask but why has my country abandoned me??? you guys know what I am trying to say . please help me

Hey Daz

Sorry to hear of your plight Brother. I can empathize with you as a 'Nam vet we were treated the same way. It's only natural for you to feel that you're the best soldiers in the world. We were all told that and think it as well. It's OK, it's normal.

I don't know why countries send us off to war and then want to forget about us. I say, Welcome to the Forums. We're all in the same boat here and try to help. Good people, many British soldiers so you should feel at home. Let us know what we can do.

JarHed

Thanks Jarhed,

I think I haven't bad but to put perspective on this I guess i got off lightly compared to you guys. I can't even begin to imagine what Vietnam must have been like. I am forty this year which means I was about one the war ended, for you guys to still be coming to terms with what you went through all that time ago must be immense.

I suppose it's fair to say that it must have almost been a whole generation of men that fought in that war, and that's a massive amount of people. How did you start to turn your self around and get back on top?

I am drinking a bit more than i probably should and for me I think this is a good place to start.

Daz

Well, Daz, drinking is a place to start. If it makes you do things you don't want to, cut back or quit. I haven't the least room to talk, I used alcohol as a med for decades.

As far as what we endured, we had no choice. We worked to feed ourselves and our families. There was no help from the VA. They called us malingerers. We "sucked it up" and made do with what we had. And we're dropping like flies because of it all.

Daz, you're fortunate in that they at least know what it is. I also know the British government doesn't help their Vets. I think that's patently wrong. You guys should be helped.

Hang here, there's lots of good advice.

Hey Daz

I think like most of the 'Nam vets we knew we were f*cked up but didn't have any where to go or anyone that wanted to listen. So we just got on with life. I just dealt with what had happened the best I could, that's probably what most might say. It's only in the last 5 years that I've actually gotten some therapy and that helped greatly. I don't know if it's better today that ya'll are more aware of everything that we weren't.Like I said, I knew something in me was very wrong but didn't know what it was or what to do about it.

I think the sooner you can get treatment the better. It's always there but you have to try to create a life for yourself in spite of it all.

This is a good place. The people here helped me in ways that I can't even begin to say. They helped me save my own life.

Jar

I never understood jamming tens of thousands of screaming people, in a large bowl, to watch a bunch of guys running around and bumping into one another. I don't understand the millions people spend on sports related paraphernalia. I don't understand paying a guy millions to run around and bump into others making millions.

However, I would probably think that people would think I was crazy spending millions on a modified P-51 Mustang to fly around pylons all day.

I can get you contact details for these guys where you are but I need to know where you are.

You can PM me if you don`t want people to know.

The only other thing (which I reckon you know anyway) is Alc is not good for the Beast, I know it isn`t easy, I used it as a crutch for decades and still have to be wary of the stuff. But it will destroy everything you do to get help. It will destroy your family, your life everything.

You will get support from Organisations out there but you have to do the hard work mate. Nobody can do it for you

I think the cone of shame pisses me off just as much as it does my dog. It catches on everything, it pokes my legs, and it turns into a giant dog food receptacle when he tries to eat. He needs to have it on and I'm not mad that he's confused by the new dimensions of his head, but you'd think they would have designed a better way to prevent wound access.

It probably doesn't help that his new nickname is Gramophone.

He cried nonstop last night, and I couldn't even blame him or get angry. You would cry too if someone removed your testicles through a slit at the bottom of your shaft, denied you food and water for the rest of the day, and made you wear something enormous that you couldn't take off.

Hey Raven

There is actually one that like a round inflatable tube that goes on their neck. They can't reach those parts and it's not as much in the way. We used it with our last male Fred, and it worked better than the cone does.

OK, I found one at Amazon. The pics below.

Inflatable collar.webp

We used something like this with Fred when he was neutered and it wasn't quite as rough on him. Personally, I think you've done the correct thing with your dog. Every year literally millions of unwanted pets are either put to death, put out on the street or just killed by thoughtless owners. Spaying and neutering just makes sense. If you don't have a pure-bred dog that you intend to breed it's the only intelligent choice.

It's like an airplane pillow! That's awesome. Hopefully they carry it at Petco. I know of the plushy comfy cone but they're not very good because the dog can bend them back.

I don't blame you, Raven, I hated those things on our pets as well. They put one on my dog and later that night he didn't mess with the staples after I took it off, so, I just left him go that way. Thanks, Jar! For if I ever need one in the future.

I'd say they probably carry them at most pet stores. It's just not as intimidating to the dog. Freddy didn't like it but he learned to live with it. He could do just about everything except have fun down there. He'd dive on the rug to try to get it off and after a few tries give it up. I had a Malamute that we had neutered and at that time all they had was the cone. it's was a nightmare. He hated it, I hated it. Wish they'd had the collar back then it would have saved my fingers.
