What Makes You Angry Today?

dont worry sarg i dont think for one minute that there any of the younger generations irrelevant of nation would ever forgot your war or your return. defo for me its was some of the films that inspired me to join as like most wars there have been countless movies, documentries and literature on just about any war in the past, some real good ones and some not so good. some of my favs were apocalypse now, platoon and full metal jacket as the training for full metal jacket was in bassingbourne barracks cambrigdeshire uk as our batt served in the same region and recognised the barracks and the ranges, i think the producers forgot about road marking and traffic signs. since joining you realize its very hard to mimic the real from the not so real.
personally i disagree with your statement about "the young folks wounldnt have come in if they if they the VA was involved."
i mean we got 4 days off before deployment and if we didnt come back we could still get done for treason which is still a hangable offence even though it was outlawed in the sixties. i know personally i was shitting bricks and so were the most of the battalion as we had our training to go on and the attrocities well you couldnt have made them up.
so are you trying to say that all the troops that went out there werent all shitting bricks or didnt want to even be there fighting a guerilla war where actually alot tougher than the soldiers fighting in afthgan.
i feel your resentment on return that you guys werent treated as hero's and either never talked about it and the help was never there. but thats propaganda for you as it brain washed a hell of alot of civvies into thinking that yous were actually murders.
but im a brit which fits into america approx x 30 times and we always returned home hero's dead or alive and always will. one of the proudest moments was flying in a huey in belize hugging trees with the side doors open and the booming of blades when banking left or right and because it was jungle and wearing combats was a real hardon.
no offence sarg im far saying your not a hard muther f*cker but you must be on this forum for a reason.

va or no there will always be young soldiers replacing the older or dead generation as i thought who the hell would want to sign up what with afthgan which just inspires them all to enlist
i must admit i had read your thread wrong and replied incorrectly soz
i thought when you said va i thought viet army which i think you ment veteran agency which are just a bunge of civves that think they think know the score but never served. now doubt it will be something to do cutting costs. but i dont understand where they get rank and medals
i dont honestly beleive your outburst would make any difference to these.
have you heard the term there is more than one way to skin a rabbit and with your years of experience probably have the psychology as blowing means failure and failure means resentment and resentment means you lose
take a step back from it as there is always a way maybe you are just to close to see the woods from the trees. every person has a weak spot but finding it is the key to the doors you want to open. oh and i never meant kidnapping his mrs and holding her to ransom. i think that is classed as a felony rather than an answer. do me a favour and back to the drawing board as you are probably the thorn in system blowing off might feel good but will get you no where.

Stevie, not being the sharpest tool in the shed, I'm not sure what your posts are conveying. Some things I did comprehend...anger over how we were welcomed back from the war. Yes, we were angry, but that was years ago and in my opinion, has been blunted with wisdom and age.

But it's not about us anymore, it's about you and yours. Some of us have channeled the anger to resolve. We have pledged that we won't let you be treated like we were. I have pledged that I will do anything within my means to help you.

That is the crux of our battle. The VA no longer serves the Veteran. It serves itself. Many billions have gone into the VA budget but rather than improve their service to us, it serves the VA employee. Bigger bonuses, higher salaries, more benefits are the result.

So, I'll bang my head against the VA brick wall, make a bunch of noise and continue to be a PITA to the VA until you are given the care you deserve.

sarge its actually the same over here we have three treatment centres two in england and one scotland run by combat stress. the trouble is all the monies raised goes to one treatment centre in england. even the money raised in scotland that people donate for what they think is staying in scotland but it goes to england. the money i supposed to be divided up betweeen the three tratment centres. but the problem is a small percentage reaches theses centres. why because one the centres hosts the the commitee which dont do this work for three so you the president vice president admin treasurer chief excutive and a large number of trustees and because it near london the cost of living is alot higher theses are the one who benefit the most. like pr makes £90.000 per year and this raised is un taxable because. so when donate they think the money is going to the f*cked up veteran where as most of the raised are going to the commitee aswell as having there own fat military pension when they retire no over and above this is that the three treatment centres are funded by the nhs leading to even more cut backs.
so sarge we have the same problem over here too many fat cats making shed loads of money donated by civilians which at the day the mititary actually raised receive a small portion of what isbeing put in the pot. personally i find this offensive as if you are working for charity then you should prepare to either do it for free or a small cost to cover transport.
i think if this sort of shit should come out in the public domain resulting in the fat cats retiring, its also the same with lots of charities take the red cross for example you see the pic of the poor suthering ethiopian baby so you fell sorry for them and donate but what you dont know is that the pound that 1 penny goes to charity and the other 99 pence is spent on admin. i mean there is enough qualified veteran out their who cant work because of the condition but have all relevent admin skills needed that would actually do it for free. soz sarge for getting the wrong end of the stick amd can know understand your anger and resentment as i would be absolutely livivd aswell.

Well, I hit that VA brick wall again. Trying to help unload all the clothes and stuff for the Stand down and ran right into a hornets nest of Mr. smart ass and his croneys, I looked around there were plenty of helping hands, I feel I did the best I could and split.

I usually sit and ruminate after I've hit a panic situation, looking for lessons learned. One, I won't do that again, I'll have to find a different way to help. Two, by the vast wave of admin people that poured into that building, someone was there to justify their position, and there were a bunch. Three, the good part, I actually ran into another loady! Only he did a career. Was in Nam when I was but aboard c-123s (Looks a lot like a c-130 but with two engines).

So, roses and thorns. Some days they are the same, others...

i just find this so deplorable as your average soldier returns from a war zone risking his life for his country and at the end of the day is f*cked up and he probably only receives a fraction of help from the VA the very ones who are there for after care who are on their feet on the ground nice homes cars insurance money in the bank
would a petition help as one voice will be unheard but hundreds thousands or even millions headed to the president or top military advisors.

Stevie, a very wise man once wrote, "trying to get Veterans to agree on anything is like herding cats" (all due respect to Ned). And so it has been. I've been cruising Veteran sites for many years and nobody could agree on anything! I've seen the "balls of fire" ones come and go and nothing ever got off the ground until the Gulf War Vets started coming home all messed up and the VA did nothing and mom and dad hired lawyers.

Then, the go-getters were the IAVA or Iraq and Afgan Veterans Assoc. They started getting together and pooled resources and did class actions and were winning. And the Feds paid up, penneys on the dollar and that VA brick wall still stood. And they got slower and slower, so now we have a million man backlog and getting worse every day, while kids your age are suffering. The VAMCs are suffering from lack of personnel cause no one in their right mind is going to waste a med cert, or a nurse cert in a deadend like the VA. Plus morale sucks across the board.

So, yeah, you can sue them, you can take it all the way up the courts and win big, until the attorney fees come in and then you're back to square one and the VA wall still stands.

The only way to take that wall down is completely. Disband the VA, VAMCs, VAROs, everything. Bulldoze the buildings and sell them off. I think that Social Security could handle claims much better if they staffed up for it. And the VAMCs, when you consider employee costs, wasted money they spend maintaining, heating and cooling too old buildings you could provide pretty damn good health insurance coverage for us.

But I don't think I'll ever see it in my lifetime. Too many powerful men, in high positions, raking in ridiculous money with no end in sight.

so your president is really a puppet to get realloted doing this and that for the people of america yet the very people that hold your country together fade away like ghosts yet the seals got bin laden years ago only to the president look good and thousands that hed killed have their relatives every thanked the soldiers personally.
i got told by pensions that because i was diagnosed with gulf war syndrome i can add it to my disability pension as attributing factors but i meant no extra benefit just an umbrella term i told them were to go.
it sickens me how quick they can send over military intervention yet be slow to give them the relevent service hey require when coming home. for example if ptsd is treated quickly enough then you are less likely to suffer in the long run which would save a huge amount.
i both our countries are kept in the dark to what little they actually do and how it effects some on return.
we have a huge problem over here with asylum seekers who once in the country get more than the person born over here.

Intermittent sleep, dreaming of being angry, my baby boy waking me up and then waking up in a rage and smacking walls until my hands are sore.

Feel bad, because I'm angry around my family, didn't get time to take a time out. Woke up raging.

if ptsd is treated quickly enough then you are less likely to suffer in the long run which would save a huge amount.

.

I can only speak from my recent British perspective. I was offered treatment instantly, but who is ready or even NOT numb so they may benefit from acute treatment? I wasn't. The after care has been diabolical, non existent. I found out about war pensions from people on here. Enough said

Seems every situation, every person is different so I try to avoid generalizations without a disclaimer, thsy just don't hold-up well. As life cycles through its ups & downs a long-term recovery likely cycles with it. Recovery is constant and always evolving, it can be hour-to-hour one time and week-to-week another.

i cant honestly beleive the hyprocity of the MOD about sending a soldier to war and lucky enough to return alive and messed up as a soldier you have to constantly have to jump through hoops to get a war disability pension 5, 15, 20 then 60% all the time fighting for it. i mean its not like our nation has ever been to war in the past and sure they know only to well the effects battle on a soldier. i mean they are quick enough to award a medal yet not so quick to offer our veterans the vital assistance the really need and id easily give up my pension for better tratment are as close to a cure as possible. most of the the time i feel ashamed of myself pratically begging for help or a better pension. yet maggie thatcher has never been to war and she gets a full military funeral which cost the tax payer 10 million not including the security. we hosted the olympic games last year which should never went on as out of respect for our soldier and nation at war f*ck knows how much that cost us, which took us out of reccession by 1% obiously someones been skimming the pot. you see we can pull out the pennies when needed but for a f*cked squaddie he fights a war abroard and another war on return.
