In my neck of the woods, we have problems with timber wolves. Instead of shooting them and risking my dog's life with an errant round I use bear spray. Buy TWO large cans of bear deterrent spray. While you are at it, get holsters and belts for it. Whenever you walk the dog, "holster up". Make sure you shake the bear spray can for 30 seconds or so before the dog walk. When the vicious dog approaches within 10 feet or so, aim for its head. Give it a 2 second blast with the bear spray. The bear deterrent spray will leave it rolling on the ground in agony. (Remember this stuff is designed to stop a grizzly!) The pain will pass in 10 minutes with no permanent damage... It leaves the target dog with a huge red mark so it is easy to identify for law enforcement.

I swear I'm losing it really soon.I mean really losing it.
Yesterday I got up and knew it was going to be one of those days. Informed my husband, "I am having a crap day." Oh, ok. So we run the errand we had to run in the morning, finish around noon. Since we are in that part of town, let's go see my dad and my stepmum. I say ok. We stay an hour. I do my best to socialize. Then, let's go to see my mum and my grandfather. Ok fine. I do my best to socialize and be pleasant. (His parents are divorced, so I am the lucky person with two sets of in-laws.) Then we go home. I'm highly irritable now.
We go and pick up his 5-year-old son, he is spending the night (he lives with the ex). At home we have a hell of a fight about some old stuff that comes up periodically. I'm fuming, all I want is to be left alone. We live in a very small two-bedroom garden flat, so I can't even really go anywhere to be alone. Then he asks me to give the 5-year-old a bath. I was ready to blow a gasket. But I give the boy a bath trying to be cheerful. The kid is sweet, so not his fault.
Then they decide they want to watch a DVD after dinner. Jock of the Bushveld. One of those classic South African children's books they made a movie about, about a dog and his owner in SA in the 1800s. I know the dog dies in the end, so I say I am not in the mood to see that right now. Oh but you have to, it's a classic and bla bla bla. So I sit through it. Dog is shot and dies. And there goes my last straw.
I go to bed. This morning, all I want is to be left alone. At 5:30 the son piles into bed with us. Fine. Then dog no. 1. Then dog no. 2. S0 5 of us in a very confined space! I'm still in a foul mood and it's getting worse. And husband goes, "why are you in such a bad mood?" "Because I f*ckING AM!" Dammit! So here we go again...

It's funny, NaO, sometimes, even when we've managed to alert our other halves, they seem to subconsciously carry on pressing the 'test to destruction' button. Or plain circumstances seem to conspire towards it.
Like in your example, best thing would've been to avoid the visits to the parents. Didn't prove anything apart from you not needing it......
If it's any comfort, me and my lass have got better at it. If I say 'no contact today', I really mean it.
It makes the other days better.

That story is probably one reason why next to my Kitchen door there is a Blackboard/chalkboard.
I put a pictorial presentation of the PTSD Cups from the vidoe on it, and just tap it when I walk past so my Misses and nipper know that I ain`t in to good a mood. Kinda works.
But I just had another thought. Maybe I should put a Barchart or graph on it aswell, and then I could post my Daily hourly level? Have to think on that one a bit.
NoA darlin`, like Ned said, You were letting him know what was happening with you and he just ignored or decided to carry on anyway. On purpose or maybe even not.
So like our cat loving Guru has mentioned. NO Contact means No contact, I have it down fairly well with the misses aswell, She has learn`t that No means No.
Maybe you still need to educate hubby a bit more. I managed to educate my misses and nipper by using the PTSD Cups, which is why they are in plain sight. Yeah some days, I still need to refresh. But they have learnt that when I say "Bad Mood" they stear clear.

Thanks Ned and Angle. I will continue with the education of husband. He does try hard, but there are days like that...
Been married a long time and been lucky that my wife has always understood when I 'needed' to be alone. She did just that; never asked or bugged me. She knew when I was ready to talk and interact again that I would. Just lucky there.
But I know many who have similar problems with their spouses. People who have 'normal' lives and don't have what we do don't understand where we're at at those times. I would say that it does take a long time for them to understand that it's not about them or some failing on their part that we're the way we are. Many wives of vet friends would ask why their husbands are like that and is there something that they can do or is it something they've done. My answer was always the same; 'no, nothing you've done or can do'. Those that got it, eventually, are still going strong.
I think there should be a medal for the spouses of vets that have PTSD; something like...............'for duty above and beyond what is normally expected for a spouse'......ect, ect. It's very tough on them.

Once again I am forced to type f*ckTARDS make me angry, at present those that work in our supposed Ops room take the f*ckTARD title!!!!
Sick to F*CKING DEATH of getting my lads f*cked about and me getting a bollocking because the supposed "heart of the Squadron" cant send an e-mail or pic the phone up!!
Its the usual Captain vs Full Screw fight, I lose. Which means my lads lose, the time for the 9 clicks is approaching. Sick of being spoke to like an idiot by some 3 pip arsehole that has dont a third of my time in uniform, one tour wonder at a brigade hq prick!!!!!!

WRT your last on the subject of this species, I was trying to pass on Det. skills to a bunch of 'purple' set-room dwellers a few years ago, pre-deployment.
Entered the admin 9x9 to find one of them about to fill my kettle, (which I'd lent them, they not having a spoon between them), from a jerry-can.
Of diesel.

Many new officers fill that description. Candidly, a few decades ago I filled that description to a tee. One thing to understand is that officers are subjected to an indoctrination level (brain washing?) that people in the ranks can't (and shouldn't have to) comprehend. After a few years of active duty, reality tends to clean the erstwhile newbie officer of that bullshit. That happened to me on my first combat op. I soon learned that I had better use the opinions and expertise of my people before I designed and carried out an operation. But like many professions, bullshit tends to dry as hard as mortar... and the body count climbs skyward!
