What Makes You Angry Today?

My stepson who I raised from age 11 (he's now 37) told me yesterday that he dropped my last name and is going with his bio father's last name.

His father never did anything for him, never visited, called, sent a holiday gift, card, anything. Oh, he did get him addicted to cigarettes as a pre-teen, and he did physically abuse him. His father died around 10 years ago.

I always thought of and referred to him as my son. I did have to admit from time to time he was my stepson when someone started to do the math. I'm 11 years older than him. Add to the mix he has touretts syndrome. He didn't have the vocal tick they like to show on tv, but he did have some behaviors that were a challenge like honesty, treating my possessions as if they were his. Lack of boundaries.

I have seen that happen before without the Tourette's Syndrome. And it is sad. One guy I know changed his name right after his stepfather died. He carried a lot of guilt for doing that and eventually changed his name back. I will wager in your stepson's thoughts, he will remember what you gave him.

No, I don't. This is something he has been working towards for a long time. He's been on the fence for years now. He just finally did it.

Sorry 'bout that man, all I can think to write is you know what you did for him and how you feel about him and that is what matters most, no one, even him, can take that away from you.

You know sometimes we don't know when we're kids, or older, what the influence is of the people who are our parents. It's only later that we get a better understanding of those things if we're lucky. I'm almost positive that he knows that already.

Absolute joke of a day already, so I'm now stuck indoors. Angry, yeah.

Here too. 30° F. I was out digging ditches yesterday to drain all the snow melt off the yards. Now Im stuck inside the house or the garage.

People who come to this forum saying they want help, then whine and bitch and moan about every suggestion given to them by people who've "been there, done that, got the T-shirt" and know what they are talking about.

Won't name any names, but I think everybody knows one in particular who recently "joined" if I can use that word.

If you go to the Forums here that list all of them. You'll see a section named Articles. There are a bunch of threads created by Anthony in there as well. You can also just peruse the other forum sections as well. Lots of info here for the taking. Knowledge is power.
