@Tornadic Thoughts I was thinking about making a hula hoop to see if I like it. I installed my drip system and ordered about 50 ft too much tubing..same stuff used to make them if I remember correctly from a video you posted some time ago. You really seem to appreciate what it can do for a person.
It was frustrating at first because I couldn't seem to defy gravity well enough to have any fun with it. I had to practice for about 2 weeks, every day, for at least 20 minutes a day. Once I finally kept it going, I then aimed to hoop through a whole song. That was a hell of a lot harder than I thought it would be. lol Took another couple weeks to build up endurance. So many belly laughs in between attempts. Be sure to stretch before practicing.
I use different colors of electrical tape to wrap mine with. They also make skinny rolls of various printed duct tape, too, that would work. Gaffer tape is what's recommended to help it have more traction while moving,l but I've never used it. I call them my naked hoops until they get wrapped. Wait about an hour after you've connected them with the couplings to start practicing with them or wrapping them. Give them time to cool off and set up so they don't get twisted out of shape.
I'd make a smaller one to arm hoop with, too. That helped keep me entertained and engaged with hooping while trying to get the waist hoop scene figured out. You could make a couple of each and hoop in public places once you figure it out. A great way to meet folks and share some belly laughs if they're game for trying. :) Have fun if you decide to give it a go! It was a life changer for me in the best of ways, for sure.
Your enthusiasm is inspiring! I'll watch your instructional video and plan to build one next week sometime if all goes well. I actually have a crafty relative visiting me for the next 10 days and this may be a really fun thing to do together. This is really incredible timing for you to have posted that.
