What's With All the Porno Usernames??

Hope I'm allowed to say this. If not please delete. I'm just wondering why there's so many new users lately with the word "sex" or "porn" or various combinations of that in their name. I assume they are spammers? It's just annoying me a little bit because I recently watched a porn movie for the first time and it really bothered me.

Oh Evie, I'm so glad you asked about this! I've noticed these kinds of names for awhile now and it's really, really triggering!!!!!!

And thanks, Bec, for your assurance that they're spammers. I just wish we didn't have to see it at all. But, you look down the page at who's online, and there it is... sexporn or whomever - ugh!

I really hate those kinds of spammers. If it wasn't for the mods on my own forums they would have driven me made by now. It is like every other day I find those types on forums that I haunt and I really wish they would go away, but I also know that it will never happen... *sighs* I just wish they would be a little more courteous of others, but that is like asking for trolls to stop trying to pick fights online... *sighs* sometimes I really hate the net...

I was glad that you brought this up too. Just their usernames is enough to make you get a little creepy feeling. I have seen 2 of them in recent days and thought ewwwwwww if their names are this bad, what will they talk about.

I am glad that they were stoped before they could do any damage.

Bec hit it on the head... hence if you remember back to why we had to introduce moderation to all new members first, so we not only ensure we lessen the chance of preditors, but spammers are the majority of headaches to any type of interactive medium upon the net that allows free input. We see their posts if they are still stupid enough to waste their time when they see they're in moderation, not all members, so we can delete them with no damage done.

I wish my forums allowed me to do that. Btw, most of those posts are made by bots that just go around registering to random sites and posting. It can't see that its post is being moderated so it keeps trying again and again. *sighs* There is little one can do aside from banning each and every ISP address that someone uses when they spam and even that doesn't work. You are doing better then anyone I've seen when it comes to perventing these idiots from corupting peoples minds. I mean just after reading this post I got a message from a mod about a spammer, when I went to check I nearly threw up after seeing the images that were posted. My mods kept them from being seen by most, but I still have to look at this kind of stuff and it is not a fun job I must say.

So I must give you an extra thanks for keeping this place clean, atleast I know when I come here I won't be running into that junk... *sighs*

If a forum is using vbulletin, then quite honestly, managing it would be a nightmare. I have used most of them, and whilst free is good with the others, a little money buys you a wealth of spare time from editing rubbish constantly. Using image verification and other features, bots can't register and post automatically here... they must manually do it, hence why the majority who do manually register to spam here, first miss the bold moderation note during registration, secondly once registered, they usually find they are in moderation and go elsewhere immediately. Very few spammers actually make a post for this reason, and only editors see it anyway, so its not loss to us. Takes them longer to register manually and make the post than for us to remove all posts and ban them.

Thanks for explaining. My site is too small and does not earn enough for me to put my forum on it so I guess I just have to stick with free ones and hope my mods catch things before the members see them... Thanks again.
