Who Else Wakes Up At The Same Time In The Middle Of The Night?

I wake up everynight about 2 hours after falling asleep and MUST eat something inorder to go back to sleep. This is not doing much for my weight!

Have you been tested for diabetes? My wife is a diabetic. She suffers from low blood sugars often and has to snack before going to bed, and it is not unusual for her to have to get up and snack during the night. Her blood sugars can get so low most people would pass out or go into a diabetic coma. I've seen it in the high 30's before (yes we retested it and it was the same). Her low blood sugars are often a result of eating something high calorie, her body producing too much insuline and she crashes.

I usually don't eat within 4 hours of going to bed. That way I don't have anything in my stomach that will add to my blood sugars as I sleep. I'm also diabetic T2 and the excess calories while I sleep just mess with my dieabetes.

"This is not doing much for my weight". Have you considered what it is you snack on? There are healthy things you can eat like nuts, fruits and such that would be more body weight friendly. Portion control is also something to consider. Look at the overall protien, calories, fat, glycimic index, carbohydrates of what you eat. High protien snacks stick with you longer, but don't get absorbed as fast. High calorie snacks are the opposite. High fat snacks are in the middle. Try eating a small portion of mixed nuts or other convinient high protien snack before you go to bed and see if that helps.

I usually wake up every half hour all night long, if I slept at all. I later started sleeping the few hours of night and I wake now, on a good night, until 11:30 - 1:30-3:30. I think my initial being up all night or waking up constantly was to be on guard, then it was so I would never be late for school or work, now it's because these hours are "mine" .

At night I feel the same things its nice to see I am not alone. I dont like falling asleep and I alwasy getup multiple times thhrough the evenings same times. And at night I like to stay awake because like you said that time is "mine" I also get horrible nightmares of being hurt, chased, helplessness etc etc. I like the way the hous is quiet at night my family is sleeping and so it helps me feel quiet and I like that. I never get a good night sleep I even take brand name sleep meds every night. Right now its tough I am growing through this process by seeeing therapist weekly, I buried myself in alcohol at different times in my life, yes I am an alcoholic but I new soemthing else was wrong I became spiritual and did the steps etc but there was still a problem and I am learning through therapy how anger, sad and lonely, helpess I feel. I never knew how raw my emotions were and how much these childhood issues were embedded in me and affecting me.

Hi I used to wake up at 2:00am every morning. I called it the hell hour. I do not know why I did this. Now I sleep good, with the occasional nightmare. For a long time I had nightmares every night, that would leave me feeling so drained the next day. Rarely do I wake up in the middle of the night anymore. this has been going on for over a year. Interesting topic.

I also wake up every night almost exactly two hours after I fall asleep. It's incredibly annoying. I wish I wouldn't! I did notice that if I try to force myself to go back to sleep right away, I get horrible flashback nightmares. It helps if I get up and walk around! I do have a lot of trouble sleeping though, but I think part of it is because I suffer from anorexia...
