Why Are People So Pretentious?

dont beat yourself up about anyone. Some people are worth having in your life but most are not. Look after those that look after you. Anyone who doesn't earn the privilege of being in your life is losing a lot more than you are. You cant possibly get on with everyone (even relatives) so don't lose any sleep over it

i think at some point I need to move over, emotionally, look in new places, find other resources to grow. But, I feel living here, I dont want to sound like a poor little victim, whining around, I have experienced racism due to different skin colour, ethnicity. People wont let u in so easily. I dont want to sound like someone who is blaming others, because that wont bring me anywhere. But, I think one has to acknowledge this as reality.Racism does have an impact though, plus not having a honest family can be tough.

race shouldn't come into anything. If you take this forum as an example, you are sitting talking about things in total anonymity and people are responding. In my view, this is how people should interact with each other and it is certainly my practice. All I am interested in is who you are and that is all about your personality right now. I dont judge people on their pasts because we all have a past and we all make mistakes which we learn from. The important thing is to develop who you are but only you can make that choice and you should do it for your own happiness. You do not exist to please anyone else so work out who you want to be and work towards it.

I think people are fascinating (when I don't hate everyone in the world). That said? WHY are people pretentious, generous, shallow, cold, effusive, charming, curious, brave, cowardly, selfless, selfish, blunt, passive aggressive, diplomatic, kind, cruel, etc.? Pick an overriding character trait? I generally find to be less important than knowing I don't get on with a certain type of person (or do get on with another type). That let's me avoid the people I don't like, and seek out those I do.

That said, since these are primarily members of one family, who all exhibit the same trait? The "why" is easy; it's what is taught & valued in your family. Which means that the majority of your family members and their friends will exhibit that character trait, value it in themselves and others, and surround themselves in people like themselves. Because that's just what people do. That doesn't mean everyone in your family and their circle will be pretentious. There are rebels & black sheep who reject family values and norms in every family. To what degree, and in what circumstance, will vary. There will also be people in your family who are only pretentious with other family members / playing family politics... And completely different outside the family circle. And there will be people who struggle with wanting to be different, but somewhere in the process of setts aside the lessons of childhood and a lifetime, to be becoming something & someone new. Again, just how people operate. :)

Your posting reminds me, how I picked those qualities to generalize and justify my state of mind at that moment. The ability to differentiate reduces, the thinker is concerned only about proving.If I exaggerate now, its like “I feel ignored, not taken care of (Although this has been true at some point in my life). So I scan those traits in many people to prove, look, here you see how ignorant people are.“

My family was so unsupportive that I went out of the house to find a new family. My friends knew far more about me then anyone in the family did, or ever will.

Eg. Virtually ALL public and private pension funds in the ENTIRE world are dramatically underfunded, insolvent or nearly insolvent. It is a mathematical CERTAINTY that almost ALL pension recipients will have their pension cut drastically(think 70-90%) or will not receive any of their pension at all.....ZERO, NADA. This is indisputable and demonstrably true. Yet, do you think ANYONE is willing to hear and face the truth?!?!
No one listens, no one cares.....and then LMFAO!!! when their pension is cut to zero, they will exclaim "How come no one saw this coming???" and yet we HAVE seen it coming for many many years and tried to tell them but they won't listen.

It is so easy to let "routine" things slip by; quite another when there's genetics at play.
