I have been dealing with depersonalization for about 10 years now. Well, off and on. When it first happened, I got put on meds and therapy and I was fine for 7 years. Meds quit working. I changed meds and was ok until about a month ago. So here I am! I was recently diagnosed with ptsd and dissociative disorder. I'm just wanting to hear from people who can relate. How does it make you feel? How do you cope with it?? I know that I will get better, but having these moments are almost unbearable :(

How does yours feel? It is very overwhelming. It keeps me from doing so much :(
Sometimes, I have to step outside myself to "catch my breath", so to speak. It can actually be useful for me. For others, it can often be very disturbing. I try to view it as a necessary mechanism that my mind needs for coping, even though it feels strange. Kind of like an out of body experience. I do it quite a bit out in public places.

Stepping outside helps me sometimes. Or walking around. My dr told me that it's harmless and normal. Its the brains way of protecting itself. But it's so scary! I just feel like I'm dreaming. Like nothing is real. I know where I am and who I am, but it doesn't feel right.
