Are people seriously just screwed up in the head within London right now? The youth and rioters being the reference here!

A person got shot, so now its turned into a free for all, burn and pillage rampage. Do people not understand WHY laws exist, ie. keeping order?

The men of London should band together and do a massive walkthrough of the areas, kicking these youths and vigilantes in the arse, arresting them for the police to deal with, as obviously police have politics at play, citizen arrests don't have the same politics to think about.

Whilst two wrongs don't make a right, sometimes citizens need to stand up and stop those who began something innocent and with a purpose, then got deviated to violence and destruction. Citizens have the power to stop citizens.

When you see the people who are looting close up I doubt many would intervene. Some of the areas on TV are very rough.

I used to live in North London and in one year I had a knife pulled on me at bus stop and then later a CS gas attack on the the 253 bus going towards Holloway - and another CS gas attack in a local pub.

I've since moved out of London.

Once I found out this started because of a shooting it didn't surprise me at all. Poverty and misery fester violence, It looks like a rodney king type riot and I hope it ends soon. I was hoping people would learn from the past, this type of looting and " protest" solves nothing.

Mob violence is extremely dangerous. Confronting an individual if you are confident with how to handle that situation, great! But for the most part civilians are not skilled to respond in that way. I'm sad and angry everytime this sort of thing happens, wherever it happens. The voilence and vandalism spread to other cities overnight.

I appreciate where you are coming from Anthony but the reality is the men of London isn't the answer.

I hope this terrible situation is brought under control soon. Parents should take responsibility for their children's behaviour.

This has also spread to Birmingham Liverpool and Bristol. It seems there was a small issue going on last night in a suburb of Leeds, luckily it is about 8 or 9 miles away from me.

Watching the news reports last night, a lot of it was just young kids doing damage for the sake of it, some as young as 14, including girls.

My daughter rang me last night, asking what the parents were doing, allowing their kids out with all this going on. She remember's not being allowed out of the garden, never mind roaming the streets causing trouble.

Very interesting piece, I hope things are getting better In the Uk.

I have just read the link you posted above Sqweak.

After reading it I will just say this.

My 2 girls were brought up in a single parent family, from the ages of 9 and 12. All 3 of us had to go without many things for years, so we could stay in the family home, things other kids and some of their friends took for granted.

Did this give them the right or the excuse to go out rioting and causing trouble so they could have what other kids got.

No it did not.

I haven't read all of the link - but a lot of people have been let down by a lot of systems in this country. It is not a reason and should never be an excuse for the mind numbing behaviour that I saw on the television this morning. I can't afford a new car but I wouldn't go and set fire to someone else's because I'm jealous and angry and whatever. It makes me so angry that this behaviour can be "justified" by those carrying it out.

My Mum brought 3 of us up. We were 4, 11 and 13. On a council estate. We were taught value and respect, I were not allowed to run free without parental control.

Single parenting is no excuse

BTW, IMHO this has nothing to do with the young man who was shot, who btw did not have a replica gun, it was real. This violence has been under the surface with many youth today.

Unemployment, cuts to youth service provision, watching crooked MPs, etc etc. The shooting was just a catalyst.

Where do the parents think these children are? What do they think they are doing. Some probably don't care. The police are determined to do the softly softly British approach. The youth know that nothing will happen to them, oh if they are caught, the judge will say, oh naughty, naughty, do 100 hours of community service, I mean WTF.

I suggested to my H, the police use water cannons with an ultra violet marker in the water. The police then spend the next few weeks using light to find these feral rats.

I am angry, yes.

Breathe.
