You Know You Have PTSD When...

Yesterday in the grocery store, a VERY nice woman who didn't even look familar

This happens to me too! Funny story, I once horribly offended a former classmate who I ran into at a restaurant one New Year's Eve, because after half an hour of me not responding to his subtle hints from across the room, he came over to find out if I'd noticed. At this point I was forced to admit that I had seen him waving and all that, but up until that moment I thought he was someone else and that he was seeking my sister's attention, not mine. I didn't figure out until it was too late who he was and why he would be trying to get my attention. The unfortunate thing is that he was quite cute and still owed me a sushi lunch date for helping him pass our abnormal psych class, but after that night he never spoke to me again.

Random thought on that note, though: I felt sorry for him one day when I gave him a copy of my notes for a lecture he missed, because we had discussed Depression diagnoses, Anxiety diagnoses, and then PTSD. Obviously, I had no need to write down a single thing when we got to PTSD. I wonder how he did on that section of the final...

When you end your conversations in the middle of a sentence and expect people to follow you. Maybe that isn't PTSD related but I can't remember a time I haven't been that way.

Just the other day, at my son's party I did that. Everyone in the room waited for what I was going to say next, but my head was already on to the next subject. My sister finished my sentence for me. My son said "mom you can't do that." But I told him he should be use to it and his aunt had no problem with knowing what I was going to say. Which she agreed.

How can one be so distracted yet so aware all in the same moment?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. A friend of mine pointed that out at a party a long time ago with friends that I also end sentences in mid sentence, and, later in the day pick right up where I left off! lol My husband also has a hard time with following me, as does one of my sons. I think, you've lived with me how long? Catch up!
