You Know You Have PTSD When...

You know you have ptsd when...

...you keep hearing a single gunshot in your dreams and you can't remember actually hearing it.

...you turn into the not so incredible hulk when someone corners you.

...the actual incredible hulk might piss himself if he saw that.

...you have a tendency to teach people how to play dodgeball and can't remember much after having done so.

...your temper has been compared to the eruption of mount St helens.

...you spend the fourth of July ripping someone's head off while trying to seek support from them at the same time.... (my best friend is a freaking angel for helping me through that!)

...all your effort keeping your mind in one piece goes towards keeping your chances of going to jail at zero percent.

(And for some lighter ones!)

...you wake up from a dream where you were fighting 'lunatics' that were covered in blood at some sorta sports stadium, have no clue where such a dream came from, but you still consider this a normal dream.

...you are capable of having an anxiety attack over something as petty as accidently pocketing a stylus after having used it on a game.

...you end up leaving a milk jug in the cupboard and the cereal box in the fridge.

...you attempt to unlock a door with a small BIC lighter.

...you have nearly have a full blown anxiety attack because you can't find your headphones in your pants pocket while the song you're listening to is blasting full volume in both your ears.

Animals
Sometimes she notices before I do. It's also a great sign for my husband...

When I was a youth I had a dog like that. Father was ptsd and some type of Psychopath. Didn't understand at first. But sometimes my dog would turn on my father, and would start barking wanting to attack him. Dog was very protective of family. I'd have to hold him back, and try to calm him down. Sometimes it would take 1/2 hour or hour just to calm my dog down. Then I realized pattern of how really bad things got within a day, or two, each time with my father. Last time was an attempted "suicide by cops."

My dog could sense something was really wrong. Viewed him a threat to family. But I think this has more to do with him having larger issues than ptsd. He is some type of psychopath or sociopath.

...when you go to adjust your glasses and somehow manage to poke yourself in the eyeball.

... when it takes you five attempts to get to sleep, and you're grateful the next morning that's all it took.

...you consider getting to sleep quickly to be a great accomplishment.

...you start ranting and yelling and your friends immediately shut up and give you some space, and then talk to you about it when they know you're calm...and they always know.

...when your friends don't trust you around certain types of people.

...when you crack jokes that make others want to call 911, but your friends aren't concerned until you start throwing down more f-bombs than a modern rap song about sex.

...when your friends see this as normal.

aren't concerned until you start throwing down more f-bombs than a modern rap song
... when your friends start to get concerned when you stop dropping the F bombs

... and regularly remind you nothing's gonna happen, everyone's alive & safe

... to which you whisper panicked you want to hear everybody's f*cked and nothing's going according to the plan because crisis goddamn calms you down & restarts your thinking, what is this Happy Normal Life b.s.

... when you start using swear words you normally hate.

...when you are in the middle of a sentence and suddenly forget what you were saying. And then you suddenly remember. ANd then you suddenly forget again right afterwards.

...when you spend five minutes looking for the hat thats on your head, only to leave it somewhere once you find it and then forget where you left it.

...when you keep forgetting to check the four notifications this site is telling you about because you're too busy..... I forget the rest. Something to do with this website.

...when you open the fridge, start digging through drawers, and suddenly realize that forks aren't in the fridge......

...when you can't find that tub of butter in the fridge thats literally right in front of your face.

...when you trip over a wall and immediately you want to punch the wall in the face.

...when you sometimes follow through with wanting to punch the wall in the face.

...when people start avoiding you because you put a hole in the wall for no apparent reason.

...when you have had past moments where you've spaced out badly, and then came around only to find yourself repeatedly stabbing your bed, and so you slowly put the knife down, walk away, and smoke like ten cigarettes in a row while wondering wtf was going on..... that was a scary point in time.
