You Know You Have PTSD When...

Some of mine:
1. Part of your nightly bedtime routine includes double checking that every single point of entry is secure. Checking anything that could be a potential hiding point (closets, under beds etc).

2. Cannot go to sleep if any drawers or doors are open. If any are opened & not closed by my husband at any point during the night I immediately wake up & cannot return to sleep until they are closed.

3. Feel the need to journal almost every event & important conversations because you fear your credibility being questioned because of the ptsd symptoms.

You walk down the hallway to do something and halfway there you stop and try to figure out what you were doing in the first place.

You sit in a restaurant in a corner booth facing the door and you know exactly who came in, where they're going, what they're talking about, and arrange the threat each one poses from greatest to smallest.

You have to force yourself to talk to someone and not feel quite as normal after the conversation.

Invite two friends to the zoo and wonder what the *** you just did.

Your friend you haven't seen since high school compares you to the Incredible Hulk after you explain your PTSD, time freezes, and next thing you know you see him on the floor and the room in shambles not because you fought him, but because you chewed him out to the degree everything starts falling apart from the intense anger radiating from you.

You know you have PTSD when someone tells you their problems, then you respond with your own. The next day they go to their dentist appointment optimistically.

When an evangelist talks about hell and you inform them that you have a timeshare there, then add that you vacation there every year to relieve the stress.

When you go camping you don't bring flint or any type of fire starter because you know you can start fires by your glare alone.

... you and your fiance have already planned for contingencies such as fires, meteors, zombies, and most studied of all - home invasion. That's right - we have our plan and we have our fighting strategies down.
