When you are reading Harry Potter, and literally start shaking and can't continue reading whenever Harry Potter breaks the rules.

When you are listening to music full blast to try and block out other noise, at the same time as calling your safe person for the 1000th time knowing for sure she is asleep and won't answer, whilst sitting in a public place trying to stop the tears from coming out....again!!

This actually happens to me a lot. Not necessarily with Harry Potter, but I have to put books down a lot because I can't handle the tension of the way the characters are messing their lives up.

When you leave the supermarket beaming with achievement, your two bags neatly packed with nutritious food, and after a few steps down the road a security guard politely stops you to point out that you haven't actually paid for it.

Thanks - I didn't mean it to sound alarming, edited my post. This is Blighty (the UK) - most people have a soft approach to things like this.

I was just really embarrassed.

I had something similar. Got to the checkout with over $200 worth of groceries (family of six, y'know). The machine said to confiscate my card. And my credit card. The customer service manager treated me like a criminal, but the check-out lady was so sweet. She was really kind & encouraging. I called the bank, and it turned out they had turned off my cards because my H was on a business trip to Canada, and they thought our cards had been stolen and taken across the border.

It was scary and humiliating. If that cashier hadn't been so kind, I would have lost it. But there are really nice people out there.
