Calling all UK Members, lets get this get together off the starting Blocks,

I suggest a centralized venue, say somewhere around the reading area, just off the M4.

At the moment there is only myself and @Anarchy attending. It would be great to meet with more members like we did last year in London, when 6 of us met together in a Wetherspoons and had lunch together with a few drinks, the atmosphere was very relaxed and I think I speak for the other members who attended that we had a really good relaxed day together.

I know I certainly did and meeting with the members did me the power of good in my own personal recovery journey.
My only reservation this year is my handicaps due to my seizures, heart problems and mini strokes.

It would be great if more members would sign up.

Any UK member can PM me and I will supply my mobile number and email address if wished by any member.. or members can message me on Facebook (laurie Davey) (Profile picture is myself holding my baby son.

If we don't get enough members willing to meet then unfortunately the meet up will not be worth having.

Kindest regards.

Laurence

I wonder if, as well as general uneasiness about meeting people on t'internet, part of folks reluctance may be about travel - while the Reading area may feel central for folk in the south of England it really isn't for anyone north of Manchester. I wonder if it's worth waiting to see who wants to come, looking for a more central location or not trying to engage/invite folk from the whole of the UK when a good number may really struggle travel to the south east?

I say this merely as suggestion or guidance - I have a healthy aversion to meeting t'internet folk that means I'm not likely to join in but know even if that wasn't the case I wouldnt be likely to travel what for me would be the length of the country.

I only suggest the reading area as an input. I am luckily financially in a position to travel anywhere in the UK, I myself am totally open to any suggestions, I simply invite anyone as last years get together meeting was a real success. I am not as scary as my previous avatar would have me appear :). Honestly.

Also there were UK get together prior to my taking over as organizer last year that again were a success. I really do feel that they are beneficial to members to actually meet in person, even if only for a few hours a year. It serves IMHO to put a human face to the member who only interacts on t'internet.

:x3: Blushing...

Thankyou Illusionist, likewise

I was beginning to worry that my jumping in here had put people off:devilish: (Anarchy cautiously sniffs own arm pits to see if that's what people are avoiding).

Regarding venue, London may not be geographically central, and Laurie and I both live almost as far as it's possible to get both from each other and from London while still being in England...

But, London is where the most frequent trains, buses and where the roads and flights all converge. Places like Manchester, Leicester or Birmingham can be much less convenient to get to from more distant parts of these islands.

Right then that's three of us lol. I am as I said easy on venue. I will leave the thread open for a couple of weeks before we start looking at venue and date.

:D
