I have a therapy dog. I had been having really bad panic attacks, and I do have a heart condition already, so it's not the best for me to get all worked up. She's trained to be there for me when I'm stressed and calms me down. But I don't take her with me every where I go or anything, just to the park or for walks around the neighborhood. She's an Australian Shepard/Collie mix and is an absolute sweetheart.
But in addition to that, I have 2 parakeets, and a bearded dragon. I've always had pets, and used to spend my summer's at my aunt's farm.
I think in addition to the unconditional love, the routine of taking care of them really helps me stay out of my head. Plus, with our dog, I get out and stay social with people on a daily basis, even on gloomy days when I would rather hide from the world.
