Neurokinesis think it's a relatively new technique that slowly catching on. It is being taught be "coaches" rather than therapists and that concerns me. However from what I've read it can be very effective, similar to emdr and brain spotting.

The coaches go through a month or so of training and then offer free sessions to people suffering from anxiety, depression or ptsd. They say they did a study on people in Australia who have combat related PTSD and it was 100% effective. I don't know how many people were in the study or how they rated the effectiveness nor how many sessions they had with their coach.

What concerns me is that when doing the technique you are to begin with minor distressing memories (rated 1-3). Then you slowly move up the scale as you begin to have more success at bringing your rate of distress down. You are supposed to practice this and do this work by yourself. In my opinion this is potentially dangerous and could cause more harm that good.

I did one session and it seems to work on those minor things but when I try to move up the scale, I have a hard time finding anything except for truly distressing traumas or at least traumas that should be distressing but that the emotion has been numbed out and suppressed. I'm not sure this type of heavy work should be done on my own time.

Unfortunately the woman who taught me is in the process of being "certified" and needs x number of people to do this for a month and report their progress daily. I can do that on days when I have minor stressors but otherwise I can't. Not to mention that I either forget to do the technique or to log in and report the progress, if any. I feel bad for leaving my part unfinished.

Would love to get some feedback on this.

Haven't heard of it. What sort of technique do they use? Sounds a bit concerning that you are in a trial with so much at stake and not too much info. I'm really cautious with new stuff like meds because it usually takes a year or so to work out the kinks or find out the consequences. Please be careful. Glad to hear there were some positive effects. Hope the study wasn't biased.

Ask for a follow up session. You have access to the coach for 28 days. So check in with them.

I've had two EMDR sessions for severe PTSD. During both I was carefully monitored by the therapist for disassociation and other things that could potentially go wrong.

I would be really scared for someone to do anything like this with limited training. This is probably not a great idea.

Yesterday I had an online session with one of these coaches. She taught me a hand sweep. Thing is I have Complex PTSD related to childhood trauma so I've used the technique four times already - twice related to things that flashed me back to shame and once for anger/disrespect and finally another for abandonment. It seems to work as the OP says - suddenly just makes me feel numb. I'm afraid though that it is in fact dissociation. I don't want to simply dissociate every time I feel something traumatic.

I did the training for this as a coach and have worked with a number of people, all of whom saw good results. You are right to be concerned about doing the big stuff on your own. That is definitely not a part of the training or protocol. The coaches are supposed to do the work themselves, so if you do go back I'd ask them what results they found they had, as a way of getting credibility and trust your own intuition on it.

I can understand your concern about dissassociation. I was concerned about it too when I did it. My experience has been that I no longer feel pain in my body or mental anguish from something that happened years ago. It had no bearing on my ability to feel pain in the present moment or removed from reality.
It's new work that's for sure. Trusting your own feelings about it is important.
