Fear Of Rain

Thanks, Mom. You instilled in me that rain and being out in rainy weather will make you sick. Even though I know this isn't true, I'm frozen today. I can get out of it. It is going to rain steadily all day, and I'm scared of being out in the rain.

What is worse is that my 13-year old is going on a field trip today. He has autism, so he has a 1:1 aide. I know that they will take care of him, and they aren't going to let him get soaked. He has a rain coat. The field trip is indoors so they will spend minimal time outside. He has an extra sweatshirt if he gets cold. But I'm having an anxiety attack over this. I know he will be safe, but my mind tells me he is in imminent danger because of all the rain (likely totals between yesterday and today in the 2-4" range).

Help. I need help so I can calm down and stop worrying.

Had an issue with daughter that triggered me almost to become mother dearest. Had to remind my self I am not her and can choose to react in diferent matter then what she did. Maybe not helpful Im sorry. I just try to not act like her. I try to breathe. Have serious talks with my self on have I want our relationship to be and how I can avoid being mother dearest. I dont always succeed but getting better each time I do seing I can choose diferent. Includes a whole lot of breathing and self calming down and repeat to my self whom I am not.

Hope you find a way to deal with this. Wish you the best.

It must be awful for you right now, but if you're able to rationalise and put keypoints to what rain actually is, would it help you?

* Rain is liquid water in the form of droplets that have condensed from atmospheric water vapor and then precipitated—that is, become heavy enough to fall under gravity.Rain is a major component of the water cycle and is responsible for depositing most of the fresh water on the Earth. - Wikipedia

* rain doesn't make you ill.
Your immune system is responsible if you get ill, with or without rain.

* what your mother taught you about rain is a LIE.

* don't believe the lie, look at how nature is grateful for the nutrition rain brings

* your son is safe. No rain can harm him. Ever.

* you're NOT going to teach your son the lies your mother installed in you

Sorry if I've written anything wrong here, but when you're scared, you're just that.. Scared. And it's very real. No matter what makes you feel scared.

I'm kinda teary right now Pixie. :) Thank you. Really. I can hear the rain beating on the roof no...
Listen to the rain me lovely
If you listen carefully, you can hear the musical tunes it makes.
The tones that water droplets make, be it from a tap into a sink, or rain on a roof is very beautiful, yes, sometimes annoying too lol, if you know how to listen to it.
I like to think that, nature is singing when it rains and the plants and animals are being fed and nurtured..And sometimes I also think that nature is crying too, when She rains...
*sings* I'm singing... In the rain... Just singing... In the rain... :inlove:

I was in the rain all day yesterday ( I work outside)

Today? I'm fine. I had wet socks and wet h...
I still at 47 jump into puddles :D I've also have washed my hair in the rain. Yes, with shampoo lol.
lol... I'm a music teacher :)
That's what I 'sensed' of you, though we've never met before. I mean, that music is one of your best friends.
Anything can be turned into 'music' imo and as you know, music is very healing...I find turning sounds, words, anything, into 'musical notes' helps me overcome my own fears.... :inlove:
