Yep. Differentials & Proper Diagnosis are important. If the "ADHD" is caused by malnutrition, sleep deprivation, bad parenting, etc... And "cured" by changes in diet, good sleep, a healthy environment, etc.? It was never ADHD.

Our research shows there are significant associations between ACE exposures and having an ADHD diagnosis, and we encourage pediatric providers to more frequently evaluate for ACEs as part of ADHD assessments," said Dr. Brown. "Ultimately, this may lead to more trauma-informed approaches to care, particularly for children whose response to stimulant medications or targeted behavioral therapies are poor."

And if you're treating the wrong disorder? Because you've misdiagnosed after utterly failing to do your job, and have just slapped a half assed label on something without bothering to determine if the shared symptoms might come from another constellation? Maaaaaaybe when it doesn't respond to meds and therapy the way that it would if it were the correct diagnosis, ya might wanna rethink the first BS diagnosis? Just maybe? :banghead:

Tell me something that I don't know. ("traumatic experiences, such as poverty, mental illness and exposure to violence, are more likely to be diagnosed with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)") ADD/ADHD is not a BS diagnosis for me... it was a sign that was missed but considering it was in the 60's that's not surprising. I can only hope that articles like this may one day assist someone, but I'm rather skeptical.

I want to say "no shit Sherlock" not to you but to the scientists. A child living in a world that hyper vigilance and the ability to dissociate are skills that might dictate survival, is going to act differently in the classroom than those who don't.

All I've heard since I was diagnosed is that the person usually has a higher IQ. It takes analytical thinking to keep from becoming plain sad, mad, or scared, and when there's no answer thinking becomes the way out of feeling.

I never used to talk but would break out laughing about something I was thinking about. Please pardon my dissociating.
