Anyone else found meditation helpful?

So I've dabled with meditation a little bit - ie not much at all - for a lot of years.
But recently h...
Meditation is great, it is so very helpful to me. I do not believe in medications so for me it is a lot of hard work to go around that, but totally worth it. I have researched many medications and have always found that their bad effects on human organs will make patients pay a price that for me it just too high.

I'm with you guys on medication (though it can be right for some people - just not me :)). Van der Kolk says in The Body Keeps the Score that after bringing in mindfulness and yoga into his treatment, he found that most of his patients didn't have to go on medications anymore.

I go to my lovely acupuncturist if I'm having a really bad week, but most of the time I can manage it through mindfulness practices :).

I tried meditation for the first time this week and really struggled with it. I used a mindfulness meditation youtube video that was about 10 minutes, and I emotionally had a really hard time letting down my guard and remaining in the present moment for a bit. I ended up crying in the end. I'm not sure if it was something healthy to feel and do and continue pushing myself towards, or if I'm not emotionally ready to handle meditation just yet. I'm a bit confused. Yoga is something I can do and does feel relaxing. I guess I'm doing enough and moving around enough that it doesn't feel as intense.

Meditation is something to take slow and ask questions from people who have experience. I asked my t quite a few questions in the Beijing because of different sensations or not feeling I was doing it right. It is something you need to practice, because some beginners feel things they don't feel the next few times.

So excellent to read this thread, what fun! I signed up for headspace and insight timer yesterday after I read the first couple of posts here, really excited to start using them, love the number of people currently mediating on the front page of insight timer, I had no idea something like this was happening, I was too busy mediating by myself for for that by pass bliss, hehe :). Seriously though thank u for this conversation, I have gotten more and more sold on medation as time as gone on, I take breaks, for what ever reason, then remember this is what makes the rest so much better. peace!

Glad you enjoyed reading :)
I'm the same, been more and more sold on meditation as the years have gone on.
So pleased I've come back to it again. Feels like it's given me something I can't put into words, some kind of strength and peace. Vitally important for me having been so frightened!
Hope you enjoy :)
