Hi buddy,

Thanks for the info it's much appreciated, as for the RBL I could get those details for myself. This is my first week on the forums so I am still trying to acknowledge I need a bit of help, and still trying to work out what's going on in my head.

My emotions are all over the place this week and it's proving difficult to try and get across what is is I am thinking and feeling. I guess a few less beers will help to clarify things instead of getting smashed.

I am up in the midlands, where abouts in Germany are you?

Regards,

Daz

As cool a nick name as Grammaphone is you can't help but feel for the old boy. He can't lick is balls with the cone on, it must feel like the end of the world for him lol.

Well Daz I think both Jar and Sarg pretty well summed it up for this Ol' Nam Fart as well.

I suppose it's fair to say that it must have almost been a whole generation of men that fought in that war, and that's a massive amount of people. How did you start to turn your self around and get back on top?

I am drinking a bit more than i probably should and for me I think this is a good place to start.

Well I wish I could say that worked but it didn't. I self medicated for almost 25 years and then my house of cards came crumbling down. Did the remaining 20 years in a 12 Step program until I got some help with PTSD. Some of your Brit mates on this forum may be able to help with the issue with the British VA stuff. Good luck!

HQ was Weisbaden if I recall. I didn't know Army that well but I do know history and remember as a kid going through that city about 10 years after reconstruction started. Land of the big PX's. I think AF HQ was there too. USAFE. Had a friend who endedd up going to 4th in one of the commands in Munich. Too bad. I was heading for the jungle.

I like Germany a lot. Nice countryside....

Went all the way through high school there. Awesome. The exchange rate was almost four marks to the dollar and we managed to have a little money left over here and there. My Mom told me, but I think I already knew, see as much as you can see cause this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. And man did I.

A Gran Prix, Paris, twice, Winter Olympics in Austria. Gobs of castles and museums. I learned more traveling than in school. Really enjoyed the cathedrals, architecture being a hobby.

More than made up for the crap a military brat has to put up with.

LOL, Vik cocker, you do realise we are talking about the British 4th Armd Wksp part of 4th Armd Div providing support for 11 and 20 Armd brigades

München is a bit to far south for our area of ops.

But you are right the countryside is stunning and as Sarg said architecture is just stunning.

I am trying to make it my mission to grt on here and read as many posts as possible. Considering what's going on for most of you guys you so positive about everything and make every effort to empathise reassure and let us newbies feel welcome. There is a saying in the British Army that's used when something is well as good as it can be. Just like your support for one another. The saying goes" you can't teach that sh1t" there is no bullshit and it just works.

I still have a long way to go but in little less than a week on here I am already tweaking my drinking habits and feeling just that little bit more happy and focused. This really is a good place to just jump into and mooch around.

Most of you guys from Vietnam ( I don't have the wright to call it Nam, I have never been and could nt even begin timagine what is must have been like, nam is only for the privilege, or is that the unfortunate guys that fought in that hoffic part of world history.

The Vietnam veterans amongst you are really helping me to realise what ever is going on for me you guys had it far far worse, this is helping me to get a grip a little, it's a good thing.

Any way when can I get a ride in the P51 mustang..

Daz, I can almost guarantee you that all the Nam veterans on this site will agree with me when I say that 'Nobody has it worse than anybody else'. I used to say that all the time early on. I did not think I had a right to call myself a veteran as I was not in the jungle fighting people in black pajamas.

PTSD does not differentiate because of the conflict you fought in. PTSD is PTSD and the symptoms are pretty much the same for a guy that fought in WWII, Vietnam, Northern Ireland, Iraq, or Afghanistan, the only difference is our personal nightmares.

I also bet some of those Nam guys will say they are glad they did not have to fight in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Nail hit. I didn't do patrols into the deep jungle but I did land on a number of "unsecured" dirt strips. I would much rather have to face the jungle than kicking down a door that you know someone's behind. You guys never knew if that person held an AK or a child. Way too close and way too fast a judgement call. And now they're doing to you guys what they did to us..."oh, you can kill that guy but you can't kill that guy" who looks exactly like the first.

When these "sand" wars first began I made a mental note of it...door to door is the shits.
