Pain Relief

Looks like we get screwed with smaller screws down under. But I have been screwed 8 times.

See how mine come from the front. Weird hey??

You'd think with the number of years that they've been doing back surgeries of the kind that ya'll have had that they would have come up with some better materials and outcomes as well. What about replacing the disc and vertibrae? Using carbon fiber to reinforce the spine so that you could still have flexability? Perhaps in the future, just hate to see people having to put up with something that so restricts their mobility and has such a huge impact on your lives.

Well at least I have a little flexibility. Some people are fused totally and have no movement. I can also be thankful that the sciatic pain has gone to some extent, and I don't have to roll onto my stomach to get up off the bed.

I swear by capsiacin. I don't need to take the supplement for though, I married a Mexican gal. If the chow is too spicy for her to eat, then it is just right for me. My headaches and jaw pain have been significantly reduced as a result. The down side is I have become a hot pepper geek, and we have to keep 6-10 different sauces around.

Now, this does a little to help my annoying left shoulder pain, but the rest is much more tolerable. I call it a 4 on the 1-10 pain scale, but it is nearly constant and therefore obscenely, insanely annoying. Entertainingly enough, the shoulder damage has nothing to do with military service. I destroyed it thoroughly whilst "extreme off-road" mountain biking in Death Valley, California back when I was being stupid, arrogant and stubborn and trying to fight the beast solo.

Not sure if this stuff is available OTC for ya'll outside the US but, this stuff kicks ass hard enough I can get through 12 hour days in the lab without groaning like a zombie:

http://www.drugs.com/mtm/capzasin-hp-arthritis-formula.html

Make sure you clear it with your Doc though. At the very least, the pleasant warming sensation takes the edge off. It is the best of the bunch on the US market in my opinion though, I have tried them all over the years. Even beats out the old standard, Aspercreme. I know it says for arthritis, but in my mind pain is pain is pain no matter the cause...and after seeing those fancy cyborg parts you got stuffed in there buddy, I'm pretty sure you think the same way I do.

And, do not laugh too hard, but a long, hot-as-I-can-stand-it soak in the tub helps immensely right before bed. This also gives me time to catch up on my reading.

So...with all the x-rays and spine talk in this thread, I had to share this when it popped up in my RSS feeds:

While not funny, I think it is hysterical when read in context to this thread on these forums....which came first or the egg?

I have a nagging shoulder problem. Hurt it on a ship, never went to a doctor. Pain is always there, but every once in awhile I do something stupid (which I can never identify) and I get some pretty bad pain. The bitch about this is I don't pay attention to pain until it makes me ill. Last Sunday I was ill.

So I did my first accupuncture. Worked like a charm. Guy beat me up a little, stuck some pins in me, gives me advice on posture and exercise...50 bucks. You can't get drunk on that kind of money here. Easy peasy.

Hey Wagon

Glad to see that you found some relief for your pain. I've been doing acupuncture for a while now and some of the problems that I've had are certainly much less than before. I like it because there's no meds involved. It helps the body to heal itself.

I don't know what you drink, but I can easily get drunk on $50. Granted, it usually comes in a box as opposed to a bottle or a can - but it's a damned good buzz just the same!
